Was listening to this news on the way home. Cameron Jerome said (and I agree) that his ability as a coach is not suited to where Newcastle are now and his defensive record really should be something a team in a relegation scrap think about.

It's an astonishing move by Newcastle. With all their money, Howe is the best they could do? Now, Newcastle are fucked if they think he's the man to save them from the drop. It's actually quite funny.

I like Howe but he would be far from the top of the list in a relegation battle, bit like Farke. Normally I would wish him success since I like him but I hope Newcastle go down.

Not sure if Howe will last the season with them, if they are still in or near to the relegation zone in March.

Presumably just a temporary appointment until they sort out a DoF, and hopefully for them at least they stay up, and then next summer the real spending spree can begin.

Howe is a good coach who will settle the team and get them playing more progressive football. There is a long way to go this season, 75%, enough time for him to keep them up.

Like Chelsea and Man City before we will see a collection of managers come in their step by step moves to build the club and squad. They will not get a top flight manager until such a person can see they are ready to win things. Such managers don't do long term building projects

Supposedly a 2 1/2 year contract, which suggests they see him as the man to bring them up again should they get relegated

Trying for Conte and ten Hag, talks with Fonseca collapsing and ending up with an underwhelming choice. It's like our manager hunt in the summer all over again.

I wonder who will Eddie buy with all that money? I wouldn't exactly trust him, but I guess he knows more than the owners at least.

He bought some right crap at Bournemouth when he had money to spend, was it Solanke that he dropped 15-20 million on? His skills lie in getting the most out of average players though.

Really hope they go down.

Howe dropped £40m on Ibe, Solanke and another Liverpool youth who never even played for Bournemouth. Nathan Ake aside, he consistently bought bad defenders and ended up reverting to Steve Cook and our old boys Smith and Daniels when the new signings didn't work out.

He did a great job having a team of mostly Championship quality players punching above their weight in the PL, which is the sort of squad Newcastle is now, but I wouldn't trust him with a pound for new players.

They badly need a DOF.

Don’t think relegation matters much to the owners. And if the fans weren’t so insecure they wouldn’t be worried either. It’s not a short-term plan. Where they are in five years is what concerns the owners, not where they are next summer.

Could definitely see him going for likes of Winks Dele on loan maybe even Rodon if we get another CB in January.

His purchases at Bournemouth were awful and contributed to their relegation. If they have any sense they’d get a man in above him to make the transfer decisions.

He’s a good coach but whoever goes in there is up against it.
