He's been nominated for the prestigious (I think) Puskas Award.

Takes two seconds to vote. Follow the link: Clicky!

the funny thing is - if he were to win it, his big fans on here would be using that as a reason why he should be given more chances with us etc.

I was tempted to vote for Messi due to that fantastic back-heel from Fabregas that started the whole thing, but in the end I voted for Gio.

Neymar's and Stankovic's goals were the best though.

I voted for Neymar, a truly amazing goal. Dos Santos' doesn't make the top three. Good goal though.

Surprised the Rooney goal isn't getting a bit more love. That was pretty much the most perfect bicycle kick that has ever been scored, got to be right up there in those 10 goals.

However, my favourite goal out of the lot is the Messi one. Not because of who it was scored against (albeit that's a nice fringe benefit!), but because of the sheer presence of mind to lift that little flick straight up in the air over the on-rushing keeper before tapping the ball in. While I was watching the goal live as it happened, I was sure that Messi had shot and that the ball had hit the keeper and bobbled up in the air to leave Messi with the easy volley on the rebound to finish. When I saw the replay slowed down, it absolutely knocked me for six that Messi had had the speed of thought to not only have realised the keeper was closing in fast and that anything other than a flick up and over him would have been blocked, but to actually be able to execute the move as well.

Fuck those neutrinos racing down tunnels under continental Europe, the real proof that some things can travel faster than the speed of light is Lionel Messi's footballing thought processes. Beyond Messi, there's not a player I've ever seen who displays that level of football intelligence coupled with that lightning-fast speed of execution, and I doubt there ever will be. Yes, there will always be amazing strikes like the ones by Rooney and Stankovic, and no one can deny the mercurial talent of Neymar's dribbling and cool finish, but for me there isn't a player in world football who would be able to think and act fast enough to score that Messi goal, and that's why it's the best.

Rivaldo's overhead kick vs Valencia was the best that I've ever seen.

Also Rooney's came of his shin.
