It's not just about buying players the current manager wants.
It's more about having a system in place that identifies good players, that a manager can work with.
When the system and the manager's preference aligns, then we have targets.

I disagree with just 'buying whoever the manager wants'. Managers come and go, and we already what it's like saddled with players we can't shift.
Agree we do need a system but in shot term we do need to provide this manager the players he wants as this manager is elite and can deliver success if given the tools to do so. this also needs to happen whilst the recruitment process is fixed with it he club that enables us to identify the correct players to go for.

I disagree with that. I think the priority should be the system, not the manager's preference.
Managers come and go. Conte himself tends to last 3 seasons/club. He has an elite CV but hasn't been with us for long enough to earn the sort of trust that Poch commands; and look where that got us, Ndom, with his 200k/wk wages. There are other fails, like Fergie and Van Persie.

We are not in a hurry to chase any 'success' in particular. Our sqaud is way off CL-level and Conte's new, so this season is a write-off (except in so far as it allows Conte to bed his ways). We have time.

Wasn't Van Persie a quality signing for Fergie and Utd?

I thought he was good in his first season and then dropped off.
He joined United, won the league in his first year and got the golden boot.

massive, massive signing for them as the rest of the team were starting to drop off.

Great first season followed by 2 rubbish seasons, due to injury? Still got 20+ games/season but less than 15 goals.

So is he a good signing for MU? 1/3 great seasons, although that 1 season is stand-out.

I'd love to know what the brief is for Conte.
From Levy's point of view, is it a case of, just get us back into the champions League.
I'm sure Conte would have confidence in his ability to get us challenging for the league if he is given the right tools.
Weather we can afford those tools is obviously questionable.
