"Levy must fully back Conte in the transfer window"

Conte by his own admission has said he has specifically only demanded one player (Lukaku) in his career. No doubting he has asked for certain players in the past. However the parameters have probably already been set. It is clear that the focus is bringing in younger players which I presume Conte has agreed to.

So I don't think it's a poch style this player or nothing. It will be this position and paratici will present options.

We will be working to a preset budget (maybe Jan and summer). Also with the amount of players out of contract and clubs still not in the greatest condition abroad, I don't think fees will be a massive issue.

Salary could be a sticking point, but I don't think we should be too worried. As long as paratici and Conte are on the same page and levy doesn't hold back, we should be ok.

Seeing Contes work so far and levy knowing being tight at this stage could lose us not only Conte but paratici as well it would be suicidal to be difficult at this stage.

So fully backing would only be signing players for positions that Conte demands, that are better than our current squad players which is not too difficult. (Except up top).

My guess would be an outlay of around 100m with close to half of that recuperated in sales for January. (Optimistic maybe)

What we get for our money will be down to paratici and Conte.

I would say fully backed means giving him as much money as possible but more importantly than that, giving him full control and say on who he wants us to sell and keep and making sure we do our damdest to move on the players he doesn't want even if that means for 'cut prices' etc as we did with Toby this summer and with Aurier by paying off his contract.

If for example he doesn't want Ndombele or Dele and we value for arguments sake both at £40million each then if we get offers around say £30mil from teams they would both accept moving to then of course we try to eek out a few more million but ultimately we should accept the deal and move them on to add money to our transfer kitty and also to free up squad spaces, if we hold out for the price we want and keep players around that Conte doesn't want then it will limit the amount of players he can bring in, that for me is fully backing him, not nessacarily giving him a £400mil warchest (obviously unrealistic) but giving him as much of a transfer budget as we can 'stretch' to as well as adding to it with aggressive sales of players not wanted by Conte and doing all of this as quickly as possible.

To summarise:
1. Stretching the potential transfer budget as much as we can for the best manager we've ever had
2. Aggressively look to move on players not wanted by Conte (sell at cut prices if needed)
3. Give Conte and Paratici full say and control over who they bring in

Is Levy still in charge of transfer dealings?

I think people will generally judge that based on their feelings but, pragmatically speaking, Conte and Paratici wouldn't be there if they didn't have significant - if not complete - control over such things.
Paratici is neither a scout, nor a Baldini-schmoozer.

I imagine (by assumption) the closest impact DL has on transfer is to mediate over any "excessive" or "additional" funds that might represent a good opportunity (e.g. finding £50m for Dybala, but not for Traore).

I think it's impossible to spend millions of pounds in any business without executive approval, and so I expect Donna Cullen and Matthew Collecot also have to agree. I'm sure it was in AON that they veto'd Levy on January funds?

Levy's standard statement come 1st February

"We tried to get the players that Antonio wanted but either they were not available or the asking price was just too high for this economic climate that we're in now, that it made it not feasible for us to get them.

We are happy with our squad now, and Antonio has committed to work with the current squad until the summer."

'Backing the manager' starts with giving him 5 or 6 options for every position we need to recruit into.

We're a big club, with plenty of money and a decent infrastructure, so we should be able to identify realistic targets who can improve the current squad, in the areas that need improvement.

Scouting seems to be our biggest issue over the last 5 or 6 years. If you look at the quality available in that time and the players we've brought in, quite frankly it's not been good enough.

So improving in that area and giving Conte a choice of players will help no end.

Simon Jordon talking sense again

That's pretty much the way I see it as well.

Conte got the hump with Chelsea because of recruitment, then he got the hump with Inter because of recruitment.

Spurs (and Levy specifically) don't exactly have a history of clear sailing in the transfer market, so Conte would have to be mad to join us without any assurances in this area.

PS Although as I've said before, if there's one club that would screw this up...

I'm posing a specific question by calling out past fan behaviours and asking people to lay down specific parameters of what they see backing the manager to be as opposed to just general waffle about it needing to happen, so...yes.

It’s Levy’s job to establish a quality scouting department so that they can present strong options to a Manager.

He’s had 20 years to learn how to do this.

This means we don’t sign players with personality issues, weak characters, defenders who can’t defend, midfielders who can’t pass, forwards who are slow, etc. He then has to do his job and buy the players we really need, not the ‘bargains’ being offloaded by other clubs in positions we already have filled.

Fully backed therefore starts before appointing a Manager and it’s something that hasn’t been in place for a very long time and hopefully why Paratici has been bought in.

He's had Pleaty before, so that was enough for him. :)
