Whilst we are virtually owned by one of the top five owners in terms of wealth in the UK (we were no 2) prior to QPR
I take a contrary probably unpopular view that Levy is absolutely right in squeezing as much money as he can for all his transfers and am less worried about being perceived as a selling club than I am about improving the total squad. How else can we ever hope to challenge the big 4 without continually upgrading the playing staff? Pragmatically that costs loads of money.
I remember a bunch idealists in football when Roman Abramovic bought Chelsea and started throwing his wallet repeating the inane mantra that you cant buy the premiership
well that went the way of all other myths like the tooth fairy
Sure you can get a genius like the mob up the road did that can do it on a shoestring but Wenger for all his faults is pretty unique in what he’s done consistently
Now I realise that this is heresy to some on this board but if we sell barb to Manu which is likely and pocket £30m + I’m for it. What happens if the incredible sulk breaks his leg or goes the way of Dean Richards unlikely I grant you but still possible we d be mega upset if we kept him and not too unhappy if we didn’t and had just trousered £30m
So if he can raise over £80m by selling Keane Berby the Sunderland four Robbo and a bunch of the rest of the deadwood id be happy especially if he blew the next batch
out for £200m and continually upgraded as we went
In order to obtain the holy grail of consistently finishing in the top 4 we have to compete with clubs that have greater capacity in seating Manu and Arsenes babies or more dough Chelsea so its only pool who are currently a similar size although even the most fervent supporter and I’m one!
has to acknowledge that they are a huge club both in achievement and following over the last 40 years
If you cant match these guys financially you have no hope IMHO of ever consistently matching them on the pitch
I think Levy has done and is continuing to do an amazing job for the club and deserves all the support he can get
He’s demonstrated his ambition he has a ruthless streak (ask Jol) and he will get the Job done..
Give him a chance stay of his back and maybe we will all benefit from consistently getting into the top 4
Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day
"the future's so bright got to wear shades"
