Should be demoted to the very bottom division and their fans banned from attending home and away for the whole of next season (when they’re playing in the French Provincial Farmers League division 3)
Certainly a full season ban without fans is in order.

Maybe controversial but I wouldn't want to see all their fans banned or anything. Certainly the absolute idiots who chucked flares at people should not just be banned, but handled by the police. However, banning everyone is unfair. And more importantly, it creates resentment and an "us-against-them" attitude. If you lump everyone in with the hooligans, and treat them all in the same way you treat the hooligans, you risk them increasingly identifying with the hooligans - and that's not what you want. You want this to be football vs the violent minority, not football vs all St. Ettienne fans, because the latter will only lead to further violence.

I get what you’re saying but it such an idealistic point of view.
first priority is ensuring player safety
How you identify the perpetrators is a challenge and why take the risk of missing someone - who could then be part of a similar act?
It’s sad but if you’re a fan of st etienne then you can’t really expect much different.
The state of football in France right now is pretty toxic all round.

I'd agree safety is paramount, I just don't think large scale stadium closures is a sustainable way to do it. The fans will be back eventually and I fear it risks making them more dangerous rather than less.

Watching Rodon (who's starting) for Rennes now and they are a nice side, just like last year.

Lots of one touch moves. That Majer is some player... maybe we should look at him. Additionally Terrier is a constant threat, he really does remind me a bit of Sonny tbh.

And with all that in mind, they somehow managed to lose to one of the worst teams in the league.

Lorient's striker Moffi is a bit of a beast. I will keep an eye on him, I think he's got PL striker written all over him. Pace, power, intelligence and touch. Rennes had like 4 or 5 gilt edged chances go begging.

French football is so weird. PSG way ahead. Both Lyon and Marseille haven't won a trophy since 2012. Montpelier won the league in 2011?! Both Saint Etienne and Bordeaux relegated last season and now Bordeaux kicked into the 3rd tier.

Just learned that four teams are going down this year as the league goes from 20 to 18 clubs next season.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galtier has been taken into police custody in Nice as part of an investigation into allegations of discrimination at OGC Nice.

Galtier, 56, was accused in April of using racist, insulting and discriminatory remarks about his own players when in charge of OGC Nice last season. His son, John-Valovic Galtier, has also been taken into custody as part of the same investigation. The developments were confirmed to The Athletic by the public prosecutor for Nice this morning.

Both Galtier and Valovic-Galtier denied those allegations when they first came to light. In April, journalist Romain Molina, and then RMC’s After Foot programme, published an alleged email, purportedly sent by Nice’s then director of football Julien Fournier to Sir Dave Brailsford, a British director of sport at INEOS, containing serious allegations against both Galtier and his son and agent, Valovic-Galtier. INEOS, the petrochemicals giant, is the owner of OGC Nice.

Through a statement from his lawyer, Galtier denied the accusations “with the greatest firmness”. He then said in a press conference that he will take legal action against those who are “damaging my reputation”. Galtier has filed a legal complaint for “insulting and defamatory remarks”.

Following the allegations, a legal investigation commenced in Nice on the “grounds of discrimination based on alleged race or belonging to religion”, according to the public prosecutor, Xavier Bonhomme. A police search was then conducted at OGC Nice’s training ground, while members of staff, including coach Didier Digard and club president Jean-Pierre Rivere, were also interviewed by police.

Galtier remains the PSG head coach, although he is close to finalising his departure, with Luis Enrique set to be appointed as his replacement.

PSG have been contacted for comment. In April, they said: “Serious allegations have been made in the media against our coach Christophe Galtier. Christophe responded clearly by firmly denying them and announcing that he was going to take legal action. The club supports Christophe Galtier after the numerous and unacceptable threats he has received and now wants the truth to be established by justice.”

Nice previously said: “The facts related concern two people who no longer work for OGC Nice. This situation was treated with the utmost seriousness at the time of the events. The club will not comment further.”

Lyon ultras giving their players an earful after a poor home result. I'm sure we've all wanted to be the guy with the microphone at some time in our life.

I understand the desire to do this, but not entirely sure it'll be effective. Not many people improve their performance (long term) after getting a public bollocking.

Fully agree with that. If anything, I think it might put players off going there.
