we were pathetic yesterday. Truly awful.
However, isn't this the best time to experiment and try new things when the result isnt going to effect us too much?

Ramos is going to find out a lot about our squad over the rest of the season - I reckon they're all playing for their place next season and I doubt he was too impressed yesterday!

Hopefully he can try out some new tactics, particularly set pieces and get some early fitness work in before pre season as well as blooding a few youngsters.

As long as you're then willing for the fans to boo, moan and piss off early. I heard people talking yesterday and it was their only trip to the Lane for the season, and it was being pissed away by some experiments that in my opinion were unnecessary. Could you imagine that being your only game of the season that you go to? But anyway, it's by-the-by, that was game 17 for me this season and I'd be hard pushed to remember a worse one in the last 3 years that I've been going regularly.

There's a real issue with Newcastle, and I think if we'd have played to our strengths and beaten them, we'd have gotten a lot more out of the game.

We're weak mentally/psychologically and yesterday will do nothing but compound that further. Mistake for me, I would have done it against Bolton or Boro. And then go out with a bang against Liverpool. Full strength, goals and glory.

I'm all for experiments, but yesterday was like testing that water is wet.

Absolutely

Look, I'm as gutted as the next man that we got spanked (I hate Newcastle with a passion, and more peeved that we've allowed them to get out of trouble, in fact). But as many others have said, I'd rather we did this now, providing that Ramos learns something. But next time we play Newcastle, if Ramos supposedly 'figures out' teams the first time against them, we had better spank them back.

That's a very good point, but, to be honest, it's been a long time since we were run with the fans' interests in mind. Just add this to the numerous other gripes of ridiculously high ticket prices, exploitative kit updates, paying to stay on the season-ticket waiting list… etc etc. But it is a good point

So some games are alright to experiment but others aren't?

I'm still trying to get to the Lane for my first trip of the season and I'm bloody glad it wasn't this weekend! It would have cost me the best part of £100 and I'm sure there was many in the same boat there yesterday, I'd have been gutted!

cant argue with any of that. good points, well made. my reactions yesterday certainly didnt support the point i was trying to make. but once the bitterness subsided, and i chilled out a bit, i realised that it was good for bent, Hudd and o'hara to start. It was good to see taraabt on the bench and come on. it was good to see us trying a 4-3-3 from the get-go, rather than when we are chasing a game.

Unfortunatly, it went tits-up in a major way. but in the long run, no harm done. apart to a few individuals carreers at the club.

I agree in part, but it was like playing our ace of trumps in the first trick. We had no plan B yesterday - and even when we brought on Azza and AT there wasn't a change in formation, we simply put AT where Berba was and shoved Berba where Keane was.

You don't go chasing a game by switching to a 4-4-2, but at the same time, it wouldn't have hurt.

In the long run, it won't matter. But I hate those foreigners being all happy.

No.

Experiment in training - play the first team against the reserves to try out new set pieces, manoeuvres and formations.

It's absolutely wrong and unfair to experiment in a league game - unfair to the players and the fans.

It's a question of pride and a result like yesterday's is depressing and degrading. The name of Spurs is an honourable one and I personally hate seeing them play so badly and besmirching that proud name and reputation.

I am all for using games like this to bed in squad players, but playing players out of position and mucking about pointlessly with formations is not helping anyone. It is good that players such as Bent and O'Hara are starting games, but I would want to see them played to their strengths and surrounded by players who know what they are supposed to be doing.

We learnt nothing yesterday that we did not already know, except perhaps that decent players such as Woodgate can be dragged down in the general shambles.

I went & it was my 4th game of the season, probably the worst Spurs game I've ever seen. Made it even worse on the train home, whenever I went to the toilet or bar I had people asking me the score, I'm sure most of them knew as well, just wanted to rub it in, fuckers.

I hope Ramos learned what he needed to & never makes the same mistake again!

I'm not too fussed p*ssing away the rest of my season ticket with poor results, providing Ramos does stuff like this. He has shown that he is adaptable mid game and will change formations, its good practice for the first team and the youngsters while there's nothing at stake. Anything to make us better next season really. I do feel for people who are only going to see 1 game all season but whatever helps the team in the long run...

I'm not sure just experimenting in training or in matches like Boro and Bolton is enough really. I'm sure Juande will have learnt a lot more about his players experimenting in a more difficult situation. Its very harsh on the fans, but I disagree with cosmic that it is unfair on the players. They should all be fighting for their right to be in Juande's match day squad. If they can't cope with a simple shift to 4-3-3 then they need to work a hell of a lot harder. Lessons will have been learnt and personally I expect us to try it again before the season is over.

It's a bit of a catch 22 because I don't mind us experimenting but........ no way do I want to see us getting thrashed 4-1 by Newcastle. There are 3 teams I hate in this world and they are 1 of them.

So for Mr Ramos, experiment in games when we are not playing Newcastle, Arsenal or West Ham

It was a shit display and probably THE worst display form a Spurs side in a loooong time. However if Ramos, and to some degree the players, have learned something from this, then I can take it on the chin to be honest.

Our seasons over and has been for awhile now and I remember a thread on here not too long ago about experimenting with the team/players/formation for this reason. If memory serves i'm sure 90% of people on here we're saying he should so I don't think we should be to disappointed when he does this and the result is not a good one
