Man said something I disagree with, move on.

I don't go to footballers for moral guidance , nobody does if we did the Saudis wouldn't be at Newcastle and we wouldn't be about to have a world cup in Qatar.

His seems a nice guy who everyone at the club likes which is more important than having silly political views surely?
There is a line though.

It’s easy to be open minded and accept differences of opinions when someone simply has a different political view to you.

But supporting someone who is openly racist, homophobic and talks about raping women is something I’m not sure we should tolerate.

The waters are always murky. I just wish Moura kept his views to himself. This opens a whole can of worms.

Forgive me for my possible ignorance but isn't Brazil pretty much a third world country? Did Lucas grow up in a poor area of said third world country?

Holding him to the same accepted moral western political views doesn't exactly seem a route that's fair.

Our upbringings determine our outlook so I wouldn't expect people from Brazil to hold the same views as someone who is brought up in the home counties.

Now I think he probably should have kept his mouth shut but whatever, it's a sport that saudi Arabia are buying into with our own players congratulating their mate for joining that project, it's a sport about to play a world cup in Qatar, we have a league dominated by a team owned by the UAE, I could go on but the point is football isn't the place to look for moral guidance. If anything you should look in the opposite direction.

You’re sort of proving his point by this comment in that in terms of human rights impact at least, there’s little between the the worst exponents of far right and far left ideologies.
Well, my point is rather that those two mentioned leaders, ruled more in line of far right (Fascisme) rather then far left.

I haven’t held him to the same standards in the slightest so I am not going to bother with the rest of your post. Brazil is not a third world country though.

Edit: it appears by some parameters Brazil is considered 3rd world, but generally is considered a developing country. It’s why I try to keep out of the politics too much.

For what its worth I didn't think you did.

I just don't see much point in dissecting his views considering he has grown up in such a different environment.

But yeah I try to stay away from politics as it's very divisive.

I agree but like I say there is a line.

Once a potential leader has expressed racist, homophobic and misogynistic views as far as basically promoting rape it’s probably safe to say this goes past decency and it’s sad that people support this.

If you don’t care about dictators who commit horrendous human rights abuses then good for you I guess.

Moura supporting such a character is something I wish he’d kept quiet and not started the conversation.

I disagree. World events do have an effect on us and even when they don’t I can still think things are wrong and empathise with victims of such abuses.
