Footballers think Chelsea are a big club. Supporters don’t

I think it's a case of outside the UK they're now up there with the biggest clubs because of their success and the fact that people in e.g. the US or Europe barely knew anything aboht them (if anything) until they were winning stuff. But domestically there are still plenty of us who remember them before the Abramovich era so they don't have quite the same allure.

As for players, they care about money and winning things more than they do history. For a lot of the last decade Chelsea have provided both of those things.

They were doing pretty well for a few years pre-Abramovich as well, although bankrupting themselves in the process.

I loved Luka Modric as a player, so so good but that episode really soured my view on him. Reading the extracts from the book he keeps making reference to joining a more ambitious club which really sticks in the throat a bit, more so because deep down we know it’s true. The amount of ridiculously talented players we’ve had over the last 10 years only to not win a single trophy is utterly shameful. I used to buy into the notion that we were still a young team, still unable to compete with the top teams but looking back now that was a load of rubbish. We had more than enough quality running throughout the team to have won something.

I'm glad Levy stood firm on this and not allowing him to move over to Chelsea. Still gutted after the day Berba and Carrick left for Manchester United.

On another note; Modric confirms that Chelsea approached him in private trying to sign him says it all.

Tapping up goes on at every club, you can't stop it, some use more extravagant measures than others.

The one thing that does cheer me up about the whole Berbatov thing is Fergie and UTD never really ever got the best out of him.

Also if we're talking tapping up that Man U Berba thing was a whole different level of corrupt and proving the FA were in UTD/The red nosed bastards pocket.
How Levy didn't get a points deduction or more money out of that whole thing I'll never understand. I'd love to ask him one day.

As for Luka most of the noise around the Chelsea thing was his then fiancee now wife and his agent IIRC, Luka only really commented on it once I think.

I know this is slightly off topic but can anyone remember where the No Like Chicken Badge thing came from?

Meh, its just a snippet. This was common knowledge at the time. He mentioned a gentleman's agreement with Levy etc. He was pissed off, he knuckled down, he got a roaring reception by staying, I thought he may get booed. It ended up in his favour, he moved to Madrid and won many medals and we got a half decent fee

Berbatov and Bale done something similar.

In football when you're not playing or transfers stall it must feel like a lifetime of torture. It's a shame we couldn't bring these fellas some medals

Sooo when you sign a contract for a certain number of years, is that not giving your word Luka?

"For me, one’s promise and one’s word are more important than anything."

Ratfaced little shite.
