How the hell is Modric only on 45k?! This is crazy, should be on at least 100k! I know he's intent on staying, but how can Luka stay, when team like United, Chelsea and Barca could offer him 4 times that?

This article is garbage. I don't doubt that Chelski and the Mancs will be looking to sign Modric, he is a class act but please get your facts straight. Modric signed a new contract last May putting him on 70K a week. The fact that you can discover this information by doing a simple search on Google makes this kind of journalism all the more appalling. Check your facts before you publish!

Even if he is on 70k, he should be on more.

Yeah and then everyone else wants a payrise too.

He signed a new contract with an improved salary. That was his decision.

If we can sign a couple of really good players in, sell the left overs like Jenas, Keane, O'Hara etc and get a new stadium all the while challenging for CL every year then we can start chatting about 100k a week wages and such sillyness.

We don't have the means to pay our top players the kind of money the other top teams can until we have a new stadium plus CL football. That's the reality of things at the moment.

That's £70,000 per week.

52 weeks in a year = £3,640,000.

Six year contract = £21,840,000

Most United fans seem to think that as well. However, after Luka's and Levy's comment, I strongly believe they won't get him.

How come the sports media aren't regulated so that they actually have to tell the truth?

Seems crazy to me that they can publish complete fabrication and pass it off as a real story.

From the daily mail (back in august ofcourse):

Luka Modric is embarrassed by how much he is earning during a recession.

The Tottenham star signed a new contract in May worth £70,000 a week, but said: 'I am quite annoyed with all the headlines about my wages. Croatia is in recession, the economic situation is hard and I don't like it when numbers are being thrown around.'

They can probably use tripe written on forums as sources. Clubs also put out misinformation for papers to publish to legally tap up players.

Although I don't buy into the convention that the media is biased against Spurs, I believe that the Metro is the exception to that rule. I've never seen a prominent story about Spurs without some mention of another team or a supposed problem.

Metro journalists = ****s
