This is why Paratici will be a hit with fans and will transform us to be winners in time to come...

“I learned an important rule: if you like a player and you consider him important, you can pay a little more than the market price because you have to buy this guy. This can only happen if you are convinced of the player’s skills and potential. If you see a top talent and are sure of him, you cannot lose him for a few million: pay and move on.””

Just wait.

I mean the praise is good and all but maybe we should just hang on till these hypotheticals actually occur. Only was 3 weeks ago loads of people were slagging the guy off for quite rightly fucking up the manager search

To say he 'fucked' up the manager search is extremely harsh. Yes he didn't cover himself in glory with how he flicked between a few managers but there were a lot of other people involved who played a major part in making us look very amateur.

I've said it for weeks but I've been hearing so many positive things about Paratici and people are finally seeing and will see the fruits of his labor over the coming weeks.

I would imagine Daniel Levy had a lot more control and influence in that scenario than we care to think. Fabio wasn't brought in to pick managers. His appointment was to make player transfer negotiations smoother and to use his connections in order that approaches for top footballers were made discretely, professionally and hopefully successfully.
Let's not blame the guy for messing up the selection of the team manager when Levy was obviously such an influencing and ultimately decisive factor but I'll gladly point an accusing finger at him if any of his player signings turn out to be a disaster. (I won't hold my breath though).

I imagine Levy's quote would be something like:

"It doesn't matter how good a player is, if the price isn't right you can't do the deal. As a negotiator you have a reputation to uphold and you can't show weakness under any circumstances. We've missed out on a few deals due to the fine details over the years, but I think that's benefitted the club in the long run".

Always felt this has been Levy's downfall. He's a great negotiator in so many ways but sometimes (e.g. Moutinho, Grealish, etc) you have to just embrace the opportunity and strike while the iron is hot or you really fuck over the balance of the squad and lose out more in the long run.

Was just about to post this exact quote. This is absolutely paramount to the shift in mentality we require.

I know what you mean but it's quite the opposite in fact. They Italian media hate the guy (or did when he was at Juve). He lays down so many false transfer rumour trails that they continually embarrass themselves trying to keep up with what's happening and who the real target is. As I said before when you see 'deal falls through' or 'talks collapse' it means nothing except Fabio has led them another merry dance. It's fascinating to watch these stories unfold. He will undoubtedly turn out to be our best signing this season.

One other point to consider is the fact that Levy has finally accepted that he is not the most diplomatic negotiator and it's probably best to bring a professional in and let him do what he does best. I do respect the guy for having the balls to finally recognise his own failings and walk away from the transfer talk table. It was long overdue I grant you, but let's be grateful it's happened. (y)

So he is a bars*ard but he is OUR bars*ard.

I notice links beginning to appear regarding Fabio Paratici and quotes from The Godfather / Mafia films which I find hilarious "Make him an offer he can't refuse" being the main one of course.

I just have this vision now of Harry Winks leaving for another club and as he walks to the exit door Fabio turns to his agent and says "Tell Harry it was nothing personal, purely business"

Okay guys, keep them coming (y)

When Paratici took over at Juve, one of the very first signing Juve did was Bonnuci (age 23) in summer window for 15m from Bari. 15m was a big deal for Juve in 2010 then. He was followed it by 600k fee Bargzali in Jan window. Over the next 6-10 yrs the two with Chiellini played over 250 games each and won all they could

I am convinced that, Paratici is following the same template. Get the 2 CBs who are going to be the cornerstone of the next coming years. Get them young and give them the role and leadership.

I am sure we will get Romero over the line. If RM dont come for him, I am convinced that Paratici will get his other top target Kounde as well, even if he pays over the odds. We get both, we are set for next few years. No more fucking around with players who have potential but may or may not work out and then end up selling them on a loss.

This window is going to be transformative for us.

If Fabio starts referring to Winks as Fredo then we know it was him (leaking to the press).

From what we are hearing, very encouraged with the way Paratici is actively looking to move on players who lack the quality to take us forward. A big issue of ours is we seem to get stuck with players who struggle and show little sign of improving for far too long. Understand it's not always easy to shift them as they are probably on good contracts that other clubs may not be able to match etc but regardless never really got a sense there's ever been an urgency to shift them.

i can’t help thinking we did the Amazon program the wrong year ?

Seemingly alot of potential deals going on right now, both in and out. It would be great if somebody could summarise the outgoings and the rough fees we will get for them....

Foyth 10m, sanchez(swap), aurier 10m, toby 10m, winks 20m , lamela (swap), vinicious(loan terminated), bale (loan ended) sissoko 10m, the portugese lad (loan terminated).

Perhaps i missed 1 or 2 more. I think ccv, ideally dier although i think he will stay as backup.

But thats a big number lost from the squad which was needed for around 60m (guesstimate) and we can hopefully replace with fewer but much higher quality (gollini, romero, kouande, gil, ings (hopefully), tomiyasu.

Given how we apparently had no money at the start of the window I wonder how we're structuring the deals?

None of our sales (Toby, Foyth etc) are looking to be that expensive so maybe we're trying to get cash up front for those and then structure the bigger purchases (e.g. Romero) over a few years as was implied in one of the media reports. That way the sale of, say, Toby effectively covers the first year of Romero and we pay the rest back once we've had a year of events and a full stadium to balance the books a bit.

All blind speculation on my part but would be curious to hear from anyone who has more knowledge or football finances. Is it more common to pay the full fee up front for a smaller deal compared to a larger one?

Think about if levy just would have listen to Pock after the CL final. Toby would have easily gone for 35-40m, with the hype around winks 35-40m even city wanted him at that time, Dier was about to join United for 50m when jose was there and Sissoko came from a year of winning the world cup that would have been at least 30-35m two years later he is going for about nothing....

Just with those 4 players we would have had 130-150m. Well managed Levy....
