I do think we need an experienced CB to lead the Defense. Expecting Romero to come into a new league at 23 and be partnered by Rodon, who is even less experienced, would be risky. Maybe a ‘Naybet’ style purchase for a season to play alongside Romero and Rodon for the next two years will work?

Maybe just lazy reporting, but there has been some media reports linking us with Coady (who certainly is a leader with PL experience). Would probably cost an arm and a leg though given his contract situation.

Tallies up with the ITK last night that NES is looking at an experienced player he has previously worked with....

Agreed but less of an issue this season, in the Conference as we will surely field a lot of youth players.

I think Doherty may also be non locally trained in Europe.
Doherty joined Wolves at 18 so he's homegrown, he got the required three years 18-21.

Dier not being homegrown and Rodon/Davies not being homegrown in Europe is an issue but as said above as long as we replace foreign with foreign we're in the clear.

As I say, he may be.
He joined Wolves Aug 2010, when he was 18y8m, having played in Ireland til then.
He may just make the cut off for the 3 years as born Jan 92. So while he was already 21 when he reached 3 years at an English club (Wolves), I think Uefa measures off 1st Jan each year.

Doherty was loaned to Scotland so it was not a full 3-year.
It is confirmed as we did not manage to register Rodon in Europa last season.

If we are replacing Sanchez and Sissoko, we are ok.

But we need Hitchin, Pleat and Paratici to be looking for more home grown players.
Is Pleaty still working for us? I know people take the piss out of him but I have a lot of respect for Pleat.

not on our books (i think anyway)
but he passes on names to us. He was the one who spotted Dele, and i am sure he recommended Eze.

Yeah, I remember it was him who spotted Dele, didn't realise Eze too. Good to have a man of that experience who has obviously still got a good eye for potential.

Im Expecting Paratici to offload Ben Davies this
Summer. He’s such a good model professional and a great fit to amid table club. We should get a good amount as he’s only 28 still.

Quick bit of research and for our PL squad - ultimately we have a lot of flexibility and can buy HG or NHG as we want.
  • We can only name 25 players who were not under 21 on 1st January 2021
  • Only 17 of those 25 can be non-home grown (NHG).
  • We can supplement the 25 man squad with as many 'U21' as we want.
  • Currently we have 23 players (over 21s).
  • We can add 2 more players before needing to offload anyone, and these additions can be HG or NHG.
  • The 25 man squad is supplemented by Skipp, Sessegnon, Gil and Scarlett - all classed as U21s this season.
  • Most of the players we are most likely to offload are NHG (Sissoko, Sanchez, Aurier).
  • We already removed 5 NHG players from last season's PL squad (Lamela, Bale, Vinicius, Alderweireld, Gazzaniga)
UPDATED: to include Rodon as HG (as he was last year) and Whiteman (as we probably will name 3 GKs). Also added CCV as disrespectful not to include him unless he is sold or loaned out.

Thanks - updated for Gil and Doherty. Rodon is listed by PL as NHG though.
