Did Levy really say that?
No, the quote's from Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media by Chomsky and Herman.

The book sets out the propaganda model of media criticism.

I know the book - just looks like Levy is quoted which would be very strange!

This is the deal I’m suspicious is what’s holding everything up, I can’t put it past Levy to want Edwards at half price along with the Porro deal

while the club last month enquired about their former academy player Marcus Edwards, now at Sporting Lisbon.

However, initial contact has not been followed up upon and the 24-year-old winger is expected to decide his future in the summer.

So, if I've got this right, the bare bones of it are;

He has a 54m release clause.
We could get him for half that because of our sell on clause.
We could get him for 27m.
All would have to be paid up front.

That would be a dreadful deal imo when you consider other options for that money.
Hope this isn't holding us up on Porro.

Edit; Interested to know how a post exclusively about Marcus Edwards is 'off topic' in the Marcus Edwards thread.

Maybe we strike a deal where we either reduce or waiver that sell on clause to try and push through the deal with Porro...

I know this is a highly negative take, but i got to admit, there's a part of me that expect's us to spend the next 2 weeks trying to wear Sporting down in regards to a structured deal for Porro, fail, relent and pay the release clause in full and then not do any other business.

Sounds optimistic to me ...

Thinking out aloud, why not reduce the value of Edwards' sell on clause in exchange for paying full whack (for Porro) - but in instalments.

We all know how Daniel loves paying by instalments, though of course he's by no means unique in that.

Always thought that's what we'd try to do but then we got ITK saying Conte really likes Edwards.

The full buyout is a big chunk of wedge though. I do understand the reluctance to meet that demand, but then again, if he's who Conte wants. Sporting probably know they've got us over a barrel on this one.

Thanks. Not heard that myself.

I always wonder how those conversations go lol. Imagine Conte being called into a room with Levy and Paratici...

I picture Levy putting together a hour plus slideshow similar to a Twitter thread on why Marcus Edwards would be a coup of a signing and fitting in perfectly in Conte's set up. Meanwhile, FP is riding the fence by smiling and nodding at Levy while turning to Conte and rolling his eyes and gently shaking his head.

Conte is just sitting there tightening his fists tighter and tighter, but then remembering his yearly salary. After he goes on his burner Twitter account and continues the fight to keep pressure on #ENICout ?

I agree with this to an extent. I could see us signing Porro and then maybe Trossard on deadline day. I highly doubt we'll spend a big chunk on a attacker in this window.
