AG is not exactly accurate. There has certainly been engaged conversations. Does not mean it will develop into a deal though. We all know about his attitude. Probably some DD been taking place.
DD? Drink Driving? Not Hugo up to his old tricks again

Something that's always stuck out to me as an indicator of effort and buy-in. Does anyone know if Marcus learned the language after moving? I remember seeing videos/pics of Lamela working hard at English. I know it's not the be all, end all. But it always speaks to me on attitude and desire.

I don't believe he does, no. I tried to learn it while over there, but it is a very tricky language and everybody will automatically speak back to you in English as soon as they realise you're not Portuguese, as they know you'll murder it anyway. Having said that, he could easily afford a good language teacher of course.

Dier speaks fluently, but he also attended school there.

No. No. No. Why in the world we would want Edwards back is beyond me. He's not what we need, he's got the wrong attitude, and it doesn't even make sense financially, since I'd rather use his release clause for Porro or leave it in place so we can collect when he inevitably moves elsewhere.

Well when you are paying your hairdresser to make a regular 7 hour round trip to cut your hair you'd imagine so.

Anyone who respects a country they move to will try to learn their language.

Spurs have turned me so cynical - I read this and feel we would be going after him as a preemptive signing for Pochettino's return.

I speak Brazilian Portuguese as a second language and can just about get by in the Algarve, the moment you start heading further north (and yes Lisbon definitely counts) the harder the language gets for an English person IMO and certainly Brazilian Portuguese is easier.

I didn't find it that easy to pick up Portuguese when living in Brazil and I was always fairly strong at languages at school. I would imagine that for a kid that basically finished with the academic side of things so early it's very tough. Adding to that as well that a lot of Portuguese people in Lisbon speak English.

Not trying to make excuses, but in this case I would say it's not as big an indicator as it might seem.

Big assumption that this is even an option, I personally don't see what benefit this has from a Sporting perspective.

This is what I am receiving. Last couple months he has been spot on in attitude and the rest. Has personal trainer (I think). He is prepared to have a live in one like Richy, to help him. He feels he has not fulfilled his dream here, and his family would love it to happen. The fee is a good one for us, due to the sell-on. It is felt that him and Porro are unplayable together. I’m hearing Conté fancies the idea, and calls it ‘low risk’ as we have Kulu and Gil. And feels with vibrant youth around the team and squad will give good energy. He wants to play 352, with technical players. He also like Harvey White. I I know not for this thread. But there you have it. Not a cert may I add. But definitely talking, led by Levy on this one.
"led by Levy on this one" so summer 2026 it might get finalised

I wasnt a fan of this news at first but the more I think about it, I think this would be a good double deal as long as Conte is happy with it. Porro would be my 1st choice RWB and Edwards is homegrown, loads of potential, quick, skillful, has played CL, added goals and assists to his game too.

This is where i'm at now, assuming the Conte approves and that we think Edwards' behaviour can be kept under control or isn't an issue anymore than it's a bit of no brainer for the price involved. There's no question about the footballing side of things and the fact he is home grown (and club trained?) is a massive bonus when trying to keep the squad in balance. In my mind on the footballing front he's a better version of Gil. If we can make some money back on Gil either now or in the summer then the squad is in better shape with this signing.

He also plays down Porro again, reiterating the same thing he said before about concerns over his physicality. Its hard to tell if he actually knows something or just grasping at thin air a little bit with old info. It wouldn't surprise me if Edwards in particular was a back up option and nothing more but again, much like this time last year, buying two players from one club both in positions we are looking for certainly seems like it could happen quickly and sort of out of the blue (at least in Edwards case)
He will have sources and he can only go by what they tell him.

If Paratici is working on numerous deals it will be incredibly hard for anyone outside the top table to know which one he is aggressively pursuing versus those he is talking to as a finding out mission.

I get the easy Gill comparisons but Edwards is more developed imo. He is also quicker in acceleration and overall pace actually. Something Gill lacks for his size and the main reason why I don't think he'll make it here despite quite liking him.

I didn't like that interview, and the issues he had previously are a concern but he is club trained which is a big deal. Seems expensive though for that alone.

In otherwords there is no truth to the Edwards part. As why would Conte want a problem child?
Other than the one running the club ?

Seems like a much more flexible formation 3-5-2. its one which utilises the players we have and is far less reliant on having ultra elite wing-backs
That would certainly be a move in the right direction. Might start to believe in Conte as a coach if that’s what happens.
