Wigan striker Wigan striker Marlon King has been jailed for 18 months after being found guilty of a nightclub attack on a young woman.

King, who was celebrating both his wife's pregnancy and scoring a winning goal hours earlier, was repeatedly "cold-shouldered" by women revellers in London's packed Soho Revue Bar last December.

When a slightly-built university student became the latest to recoil from his touch, he lost his temper and in an outburst of "completely gratuitous violence" lashed out, "smashing" her to the floor.

His single clenched fist blow was so powerful that two other revellers - one of them holding on to his arm - were also sent flying.

While bouncers moved in to restrain the muscular £5million striker, friends rushed to the aid of his victim.

As she was helped to her feet, blood poured from her shattered nose, London's Southwark Crown Court heard.

The 29-year-old claimed he was a victim of "mistaken identity".

But after hearing overwhelming evidence from a string of witnesses, including a football coach who insisted he was the assailant, the jury decided he was lying.

He was unanimously convicted of sexually assaulting the 20-year-old and causing actual bodily harm.

Good, sounds like a right tosser.

not the first time he's been in jail

A promising young footballer was jailed for 18 months for handling a stolen BMW at Inner London Crown Court.
Gillingham striker Marlon King, 22, valued at £5million, was cleared of attacking an off-duty policeman.
He was caught driving the BMW 325i last July. He had denied the charges.

then they will claim compensation just like Chelsea did with Mutu I personally think they should stick by him.
Obviously he shouldn't be paid whilst inside but the sacking helps no one, seriously does anyone think just because he has been sacked he will think twice about getting tanked up and hitting on (literally) women plus i doubt wigan can afford to throw away 5m.
Nope Wigan should at least make some effort to sort him out. I would expect the same if it was one of our players

Not much difference to what Gerrard did. Apart from the sexy touching.

Of course it's different. The difference being Gerrard plays for Liverpool, and King plays for Wigan. Gerard wouldn't have been sent down if he'd torched a man...

If Gerrard was stupid enough to break a woman's nose after she rejected him, he would've got the same sentance.

There is very few employers that would keep your job open after getting 18 months in clink.
Its up to him to make an effort to sort himself out not Wigan, he has been jailed before so he would be fully aware he needed to keep his nose clean.

He got off lightly, this bloke touched up two women on the underground and got two years.

One of Jamie Oliver's young chefs wrestled with a prison officer in the dock yesterday as he was jailed for groping women on the Tube.

Christopher Murray swore loudly and punched a glass screen when a judge sent him down for two years, telling him he had thrown away a golden opportunity to turn his life around.

Murray, 21, who had worked with the TV chef at his restaurant Fifteen, was caught rubbing himself against a woman on a Tube by two plain clothes police officers. Just 24 hours after he was arrested for the assault on the 34-year old, Murray was spotted on CCTV fondling a second woman on the escalators at Pimlico station, south London

Out celebrating news of his wife's pregnancy and smashes in some girl's face because she won't go for his advances? He's a fucking prick and well and truly deserves everything he gets, if not more. The absolute lowest of the low.

More stuff coming out about King... from The Times online....

A Premier League footballer with a history of violence against women was today sentenced to 18 months in jail for punching a student in the face after she spurned his aggressive sexual advances.

Marlon King, who played for Jamaica and a series of English clubs including Wigan Athletic, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman and breaking her nose with a single powerful punch.

He becomes the highest-profile English footballer to be sent to prison since Joey Barton, the Newcastle United midfielder, was jailed for six months in May last year for beating a teenager in the street.

In the five years before the nightclub assault, King was found guilty of a trio of similar attacks on women, it can now be reported. He was first convicted of common assaults on two women he chased through Soho with a belt wrapped round his fist in 2003.

Three years later, he was convicted of threatening behaviour after slapping a woman on the head and bottom and then spitting at her when police arrived to intervene.

King’s criminal record also included dishonesty, drink driving and other motoring offences. Only one of his convictions, for receiving a stolen £30,000 BMW, resulted in a prison sentence – 18 months reduced to nine on appeal.

Apart from a couple of community penalties, he was invariably fined and able to continue his football career. He is thought to have earned around £40,000 per week since joining Wigan Athletic last year.

A very bad man.

What a prick.

Seem to recall him being a bit of a bad influence when away with Jamaica.

I wouldn't shed a tear if he gets back what he dished out while in the nick.
