i would like to retract my previous statement! i thought it was just this and the bmw.

i also like this bit though

"King’s criminal record also included dishonesty, drink driving and other motoring offences."

i wasnt aware dishonesty was a criminal offence

Here is the full Times article, interestingly the prosecution screwed up - they could have had his previous taken into considerationduring the trial but their chance was blown...

I heard his agent on radio 5 this evening saying it was wrong for Wigan to sack him and that King may get released on appeal. His mistaken identity defence is weak, many people identified him including his old football coach.

If the press is right and he broke her nose he was lucky to only be charged with ABH and not S18 GBH.
It gets worse the more I read about it, in the Times article the victim is described as of slight build.
Hope he enjoys the prison showers though.

In any other line of work, you would be sacked for doing something like this and I feel it should be part of a footballer's contract that he doesn't bring his club or the game into disrepute with violent or illegal behaviour and that it will mean an instant sacking and him not being able to play professional football ever again.

A footballer earning thousands of pounds a week should be a role model, not a thug, and deserves to lose his livelihood as well as his freedom for an act of violence, whether he's drunk or not. King has offended before, many times. He has had too many chances to show remorse and change his behaviour.

It's high time that football was cleaned up, both on and off the terraces.

hopefully wigan will sue him as well, as they paid a lot of cash for him so he should be held responsible for some of that fee like mutu with chelski.

the lad was given a second chance in footie yet still did this and other bits as well including chasing after 2 women with a belt wrapped around his fist Eek since his last release so i dont think he deserves another chance, i would be disgusted if sporting chance wasted time, effort and money helping him. surely there will be other more deserving sportsmen and women to help then him

There's no mention of what the sexual assault involved. You think the victim used to engage in nose sex? That way the ABH and sexual assault took place in the same punch.

Sounds like a right nice guy. Running through Soho with a belt wrapped around his fist could've come straight out of the English version of Pulp Fiction.

Anyway, he''ll be out in 6 months unless he causes grief inside.

More stuff coming out about King... from The Times online....
A Premier League footballer with a history of violence against women was today sentenced to 18 months in jail for punching a student in the face after she spurned his aggressive sexual advances.
Marlon King, who played for Jamaica and a series of English clubs including Wigan Athletic, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman and breaking her nose with a single powerful punch.
He becomes the highest-profile English footballer to be sent to prison since Joey Barton, the Newcastle United midfielder, was jailed for six months in May last year for beating a teenager in the street.
In the five years before the nightclub assault, King was found guilty of a trio of similar attacks on women, it can now be reported. He was first convicted of common assaults on two women he chased through Soho with a belt wrapped round his fist in 2003.
Three years later, he was convicted of threatening behaviour after slapping a woman on the head and bottom and then spitting at her when police arrived to intervene.
King’s criminal record also included dishonesty, drink driving and other motoring offences. Only one of his convictions, for receiving a stolen £30,000 BMW, resulted in a prison sentence – 18 months reduced to nine on appeal.
Apart from a couple of community penalties, he was invariably fined and able to continue his football career. He is thought to have earned around £40,000 per week since joining Wigan Athletic last year.

A very bad man.

True, but another thing that shows what an arsehole he is, is that he`s on £40,000 a week and still lives in Waltham Cross. WTF.
I live in Waltham Cross but you wouldn`t see my arse for dust if i was on £2,000,000 a year.

Very lenient given what he did and has done in the past. Marlon King and Joey Barton should be banned from professional football for life.

This Tony Finnegan chap has achieved the difficult task as establishing he is as much of a scumbag as his client.

Great that he went out to celebrate his wife's pregnancy by trying to shag anything that moved.

Hi Ted - It's Goffs Oak :

http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk/hertfordshiremercury/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=460149

Good enough for the parents of Posh Spice albeit a poor man's verson of Cuffley. Even I nearly bought a house in Robinson Close way back in 1982.

His house is probably in that new fangled St James's village part, they are a million quid or thereabouts.

Goffs Oak is ok - my friends Cliff and Joan Jones live there! Lovely house, nice area.

Let's hope King can't afford to live there when he gets out - he'll be lucky to get a council house.

Blimey, the gaul of some people - now his agent is shouting his mouth off that King didn't get the support he was entitled to from the PFA or his club.

I'm sorry, i think i've misunderstood, it appears that King groped and punched this girl in his professional capacity. I can only assume that, during a game he was running for the ball and this lass got in his way, he felt threatened enough that he felt he needed to punch her to carry out his job effectively?

The PFA and Wigan rightly didn't get involved, in my opinion, it was nothing to do with his job or his employer, it wasn't even like it happened during his lunchbreak. He's appealing the decision obviously, buy now i want Bobby Barnes of the PFA and Doug Whelan to respond by standing together for a photo for the red-tops, the pair of them flicking him the bird, laughing.
