In truth the last true marquee signing I think we made was Gazza. He was the most sought after player in the country and we beat Manure to his signature to by paying a record fee. The modern equivalent would be signing someone like Raheem Sterling and quite frankly he isn't yet close to the same level Gazza was when we signed him.

Ah the good old days when we were the first Plc and used to sing "loads of money" at opposing fans. Will we ever see that again ? Without a Sheikh or an oligarch I very much doubt it.

The quality of player we've been signing since Harry left has dropped a level.

Not really. Lloris alone is better than any player we signed under Harry. The best signing Harry made was one he didn't have any input on beyond 'yes please Daniel'.

Arguably Harry's biggest failing here was his inability to properly enhance the squad with a top signing. What he did very well was create a balanced and high performing squad by identifying gaps and filling them in with solid players. Modric and Bale were already here when he arrived. If he'd have cracked the big signings then he'd potentially have won us the league.

Not really. Lloris is the only player you can mention.

We've made some others (Eriksen, Vertonghen, Chadli) that have been up there with anything Harry had a hand in. Our Harry signings were solid but unspectacular. We've obviously made foul ups recently, but I wouldn't point to Harry's signings as being some sort of golden era for us in any way.

Our signings before him were far better. 2003-2008 when we brought in Modric, Bale, Berbatov, Carrick. Our big signings tailed off after Harry arrived, not when he left. Which Harry signings in particular do you think are indicative of a time that we can now only but dream of? Walker? He was probably the best. Parker? Gallas maybe? Good singings, but nothing we're not capable of these days.

The trouble with his signings was generally that they did a job for about a year, and then they were out of steam. It worked for a bit, but it's not a model you can use if you're serious about moving the club forward.

If you can't see the signings have been worse since AVB took over then you must be mad.

I sense you have never seen Silva play, the kid is a future superstar.

I have seen him play... just not exactly a marquee signing. A min of VdV level would be a marquee signing.

Perhaps illarramendi or Bender.
