Oh no! We're linked and supposedly close to signing a good player at a position we need.

THE HORROR.
Did I ever say that I don't want to sign a quality cb? Or that I think it's horrendous that we are close to signing him? No.

It's the fact that we do need him and that we don't really know what's going on. And there's so many twists and turns. Hence; this saga is horrendous

Good news from Grey Fox. At least if we've agreed personal terms with both MS and MM, it would suggest they're both eager to move on, and when players want to go, they normally go eventually.

On the other hand this could just be a case of us agreeing everything with the player and his agent, and have made our offer to Villareal and are just waiting for them to realise (or not) that it isn't going to get better and (hopefully) acquiesce. The fact that they aren't exactly getting a windfall out of this deal means they aren't exactly desperate to bend over, but may eventually because their 35% is (marginally) better than a poke in the eye.

They may well be hoping someone else comes in, or maybe they are trying to negotiate with the other parties for a better deal or to buy them out and keep him for another year ?

Who fucking knows ?

That's pretty much it. They'll accept it in the end, providing a big player doesn't come in for him. That's what they're hoping for. They know we arn't going to improve the offer in all likelihood so they're just sitting on it waiting for something better - might as well sort of attitude with plenty of time left on the clock.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

I get this, but if the bid is around the 20 million mark (Euros or Pounds) what bigger club is going to big much more then that, no one will pay the release clause or even get close to it, so the gain will be minimal in a transfer sense. Villarreal should buy some players in full if they want to get the full whack not hardball the owning other parties, even if they were successful in clawing back most of the fee, it would create a massive rod for their back as who would want to deal with them again shared ownership wise knowing that the day you could cash in they are gonna slap their wangs on the table and start being silly about it.

It's perfectly simple.

Transfers which involve third-party ownership have a 50% extra difficulty premium attached to them.

So we've got another 5 pages to go......

Sums up loyalty in the game where a player declares his loyalty to his club a mere 3 months ago but it gets dismissed as 'old quotes'. Not criticising anyone on here. I get the logic behind it (all players do it) but it's just sad that's all.

Yep, and he's hardly going to mind if he ends up at a Man City or Chelsea sized club instead. Bigger cut for him and his agent too.
