I cant believe that people are trying so hard to pick faults with this guy. He sounds like he is a fantastic goalkeeper. It wasnt that bad a penalty but it makes the save even more impressive that he was injured since the first half but had the determination for his team to stay on and be able to make the save. Thats the kind of grit we need at spurs, seems like he was willing to put his body on the line to win. He may not be 6' 11" but that doesnt mean he cant make up for it with sheer agility.

Yep. Cudicini isn't tall for a keeper but he was heavily linked with anticipation in the last transfer window, and may well have come if it weren't for Cech's injuries.

Isn't liverpools keeper pretty short?
Doesn't mean fuck all.

I always thought Shay given was a short keeper, but it turns out he is aroudn 6'4 or something, he just looks tiny!

a 5ft 11 man with 2ft long arms stretched above his head has a reach of about 7ft 11ft. add a jump to that and there no physical reason why any goalie in the world can't get higher than the tallest strikers head when they both jump.

A few on here didn't fancy Hutton from Rangers either and he has been one of our best signings in recent years. Keepers don't have to be giants, if McGregor is 6ft that certainly isn't small anyway! who ever we get in as No.1 has to be confident, especially on dealing with crosses. Amelia would be my first choice

According to his website, he's 6ft 1in.

Anyone who thinks a lack of height is not a disadvantage for a goalkeeper, is kidding themselves. The fact that some goalkeepers may mitigate that disadvantage by increased athleticism doesn't change the fact that they start off with a disadvantage, in just the same way as a short basketball player is at a disadvantage.

That only applies if:

a. The goalkeeper concerned has his arms growing out of the top of his head; or

b. He has a completely flat (2-dimensional) head; and

c. The striker doesn't have more of a run-up than the goalkeeper, which he usually does.

Never seen him but would agree that unspectacular is good for a keeper.

On a side note - I read in The Mirror (yes, I know but it's fun) that Curbishley is under strict orders to get some money in at West Ham. With that in mind, surely a decent bid for Rob Green would interest their Icelandic chairman dude. He's been one of the top keepers this season (Green, not the chairman) and surely would be pushing for England's no.1 if he came to us?

your right from elbow to finger tip a 5ft 11 man only has 1.5ft of arm above head height. so reallys it's only 7ft 6 ... again though taller than any forward in world football by at least half a foot. A run up?? a fair comment however. jump height difference is relative to msucle biuld spring etc. We're all whitness to smaller fellas getting more spring than bigger one interms of relative floor clearance in relation to thier height.

Little uns are bouncier. And little un that had trained to be Pro Goalies and further more been sucessful enough to make it as pro goalies i would suggest have even better than average spring from a stand still.
