If he isnt good enough for Pompey why would he be good enough for Spurs?
Have you taken a look at our relative league positions lately?
If he isnt good enough for Pompey why would he be good enough for Spurs?
No, I've always said he's at least two years away. He can't be judged alongside other players as he has to make up ground in his head and learn to read situations like an experienced old pro ie Tugay. His mobility problems are magnified further when he plays with Zokora as he has to play higher up the pitch, where he can find less space and his lack of mobility becomes further exposed. Last season he was being compared to Hoddle, but then both TT and JJ were injured and he was paired with Zokora and it simply doesn't work for him. It happened again this season. He was doing well, but then played 3 dreadful games all alongside Zokora. I do think he may be finished at Spurs. But for a player with his talent it's too early to say write him off. If he can learn to read situations and nip into to intercept the ball, then he could be as good as there is, particualry in a 3 man CM. There have been calls for him to play in a 3 CM for us, but that is a very tactical formation, and very few players of his age are able to play that pivotal role. It's a postion where experience is key. The best recent examples of it in the Prem are Makelele, Hamman and Campo (wise old heads). Look at the best teams in Italy, the most tactical league in the word and you'll see the best sides are dominated by older players.

Pretty sad.But I think alot more players deserve to be shown the door before hudd. We should think bout loaning him out.
African nations cup will decimate pompey.
Eddie, i remember you saying that you thought our best CM pairing of recent years was Mendes/Davis, but I wasn't living in the Uk when they played together, so didn't really get to see them. When I did see Davis, it was in the 2nd half of the season and he looked pretty poor. In your opinion, did he ever get back to fitness after he got injured and was out for a few months? Because, from what i've seen of him at Pompey, he looks like a really good player. He'd easily get into our CM from what I've seen this season and i remember David James saying he is as talented as any CM in the country. Yet you are the only poster I can think of that really speaks highly of him here.
People exaggerate the signifcance of the ANC. At Spurs we've had bad experiences with it becasue of Kanoute and Mido both losing form after the tournament, so we, more than most fans, don't talk fondly of it. But the truth is most players will only miss 1 or 2 prem games. It must be remembered that Mido missed a few games, but that was because Egypy went all the way to the final. Half the teams will go out in the first round.
People seem to ignore the fact that Pedro now can't get in the Pompy team. The year they really show their class, and it's without Mendes in the middle.
I always liked him though, and he and Davis definitely gelled well. Despite this, he isn't as good as many make out, and it was good business that we did with Pompy.
Was it? I think we only got £2.5 million for him, which when you consider we paid about £8 million for JJ, similar for Zokora, £5 million for KPB and £2.5 million for the Hudd, suggests to me they got a pretty good deal. I think we sold Sean Davis for a similar amount aswell. I'd say if there was a winner and loser in those deals, it was Pompey both times.
Its a pity people are forgetting that the only name mentioned in this whole thread who's ever won the Uefa Cup and Champions League is Pedro Mendes... but i guess seen as he cant get into the Pompey team he's shit...
IDIOTS!
To be honest, that trio of Pamarot, Davis and especially Mendes were all good enough to still be in our squad.
I would sell Flatters to human trafficking to get Mendes back at the lane.
Always looked a cut above when he played and so unlucky not to get more games.
He deserves to play for a better team than Pompey, he doesn't fit their style - he fits ours, both under BMJ and now Ramos.
VOTE FOR PEDRO!
