I woild really hope if he joins he replaces Diet at the back as he still doesn’t convince me as a top 4 CB (was done for Ings goal with a ball over the top - the latest lapse) but seems Jose has the horn for Dier due to his attitude so probably Toby has to reluctantly make space :-(

Jose likes Dier because when he joined he was the only leader in the squad. This made up for his playing deficiencies. Since then we’ve signed a number of players labelled as ‘leaders’ with Skriniar being the next if we sign him. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dier dropped to the bench in the near future.

More of a medium block, but Southampton did take advantage of the space in behind in that first half leading to us dropping deeper in the second half. We haven't really played a true high line under Jose IMO, nothing even remotely approaching the way Southampton were set up on Sunday. I personally think Skriniar's weaknesses would be covered by Jose's tactics.

I’m sorry, and perhaps this says more about my Sherwood-like mentality to football tactics, but are we all just pretending that a ‘medium block’ is an actual footballing football tactic, in football?

I'm so confused. How and why are we throwing around this kind of money?! I'm not complaining but just seems to be going against everything we were told about being frugal earlier in the window.

If you Google Skriniar right now it says:

Milan Škriniar is a Slovak professional footballer who plays centre-back for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and the Slovak national team.

:nailbiting: :)
Edit: they've fixed it now.

I actually think Dier could still make a top cb. For years people spoke about how he’d eventually move back there and it really hasn’t been that many games since he has. For many games he’s been really good imo but granted he’s made a few mistakes.

We must be one of very few fanbases who wonder where the money comes from when we're touted to spend big on a player(s). I'm not gonna question it because one thing's for sure and that is Levy knows how money works and what we can or can't do in the market. And I'm definitely not complaining.

Surely the merits of a new contract extended further then Dier adopting just a leadership role?

JM see’s these guys in training day in / out. No way he signs a new long term (with improved terms) deal on the assumption all he does is shout a bit and attack fans.
