As he is staring tonight it must be pretty far from being close, getting very sceptic about it now

As explained above, other players have played for one team, left the next day and played for their next team not long after. There's no correlation between starting and being far apart in contract negotiations, if there's an actual one.

Tier system is broken. I will make it easier.

Gives optimistic info about Skriniar deal completing - Tier 1

Everything else - Tier bullshit

We've not been told it's off by anyone credible yet, so the logical guess is that we'll increase our bid if we get through tomorrow night. The confidence seems to be from our end too which makes me think that us coming back with another bid is very likely.

They do... but wouldn't it be far more reasonable to save him from being injured and isn't it a sign that Conte can not be that much against him when he starts him?
I mean the players we do not want anymore are not near the squad.

Not saying that it can not happen, just saying the signs are not that good and it seems not to be that close.

To be honest, I think we're just waiting to get through the Europa League tie before formally bidding. The EL Group Stages is allegedly worth £15m to the club so I wonder if Levy is just waiting to bank on some guaranteed income before committing to the signing
This makes sense. We've already spent a decent amount this window and if striker is our priority (as it should be) then any currently remaining funds should be reserved for the striker signing. If we get more guaranteed money by qualifying for the EL group stage then we can also buy Skriniar.

Fingers crossed we can get this over the line. Wouldn't be the end of the world if we don't but would simply push this from a great window (assuming we get a striker) to THE UNDISPUTED BEST WINDOW OF ALL TIME.

I wonder if we'd go back in for him in Jan if we can't sign him now? That's essentially what Inter did for Eriksen, right?

So offer more, in other words

Does feel like this is in the balance - we've all seen such deals collapse because we wouldn't bridge the financial gap

Someone probably already said what i'm about to say - but i think the EL qualification goes both ways. i.e. Inter would probably bet on us winning tomorrow, so it makes sense for them to hold out till after tomorrow's match to see how that leverage plays out.

(the deal could still go through either way, but why wouldn't Inter wait to see whether they accept the current offer or ask for a little more, depending on tomorrow...?)

Inters sporting Director:

Ausilio: "Skriniar? There has been contact with Tottenham, we have reiterated that the player is not on the transfer market. And we have not received any special offers. Other than reiterating that Skriniar will stay here, I can't help"

Yeah, basically a 'Pay us the (big) figure we want and he's yours' quote.

As someone else said earlier in this thread, no way we would have sent representatives if he was not for sale. Especially in this climate. Reads to me like we need to offer more or they need to settle for less.
