Glad to see that modric has made the team of the tournament for euro 2008, some very good players in there and its encouraging to see that one of our can compete with such world class players and hopefully he can bring this form to the prem. Finally the nay-sayers that he is too fragile for top class football will have been silenced as he showed he is the lynchpin of a very good croatian side and would be an asset to any side.

On another note, I saw that skysports were saying how controversial it was that ronaldo wasnt selected in the squad but in truth he was poor. He didnt live up the hype, albeit understandable having carried united all year and being under the pressure he has been but surely this is another example of skysports bumming him for no reason?

Xavi was named player of the tournament although personally i thought senna was outstanding, exactly the sort of player we need. Just a shame about his age and the likely price villareal would command, and the cl action of course.

On a side note, on the bbc gossip section it has a quote from dos santos saying

New Tottenham signing Giovani Dos Santos, 19, has revealed he turned down Man United, Chelsea and Ajax to sign at White Hart Lane from Barcelona. "I also had good offers [from them], but I loved Juande Ramos' ideas. I am going to do great things with the Spurs," he said. (Setanta Sports, 1110)

If true then not only is he a legend but ramos is also...

I can't believe Spain's Sergio Ramos isn't in the team! He was immense, solid as a rock and good attacking play down the wing.

Cos he was well shielded by the 5 man midfield... in the group stage he didn't exactly look solid!

When they switched to 4-5-1 for the semi and final... he looked a lot better!

Agreed. I thought he was incredible in the semi final against Russia. They started with Iniesta on the right wing, then Silva switched to right wing, then they realised that Ramos was good enough to have the whole right side to himself. This sounds like nonsense and tactical madness, but it's true. He really was that good!

Deco should have been in the team of the tournament too.

For these championships, having a player of the tournament seems to miss the point a bit. OK, obviously in a sense that's a silly thing to say, but what I mean is that the outstanding performance of the tournament was really the entire Spain midfield. The way they constantly swapped positions, the combination play... it was just breathtaking at times.

Games are often won by an individual making the difference. That wasn't the case in this tournament.

Modric really impressed me in the Euro's. I have no doubt now that he will be able to play that CM role in the hussle & bussle of the Premiership. Many people have questioned his size but that doesnt affect Makelele/Scholes/Flamini etc and I cant see it affecting Modric.

His balance is the attribute that impresses me the most. He seems to use his exceptional balance to shield the ball from much bigger counterparts in midfield. He will be our star next season!

you're right mate..in fact looking at those three players..perhaps his size is to his advantage or indeed what makes him such a nifty little player..

Altintop for DM! Looks 33 but only 25. Didn't think we'd be able to get him but it seems he wasn't a regular for Bayern last season.

How did Ballack get in there? On that basis then Toni and Gomez should be in there too!
