Hi,

I know I could have posted in another thread, but given latest ITK says he has been given reassurances I thought I would do a quick poll (instead of working).

Has the Modric saga given the club the kick up the arse it required and therefore done us good?

Poll:
Yes- management needed a kick up the arse.
No- Little rat faced bastard has upset teh squad

Alrighty, well I've picked No but not because it has unsettled the squad and certainly not because he is a "rat faced bastard".

Certainly there has been absolutely no indication or information to suggest that the squad has been unsettled. During the saga VDV was interviewed and if anyone would be unsettled you would expect it to be our other big stars, but it appeared quite the opposite with VDV.

Saying that though, a saga of this type can never be good for the club and the way Modric went about it made matters much much worse in my opinion. And whether there was a gentlemans agreement or not, to publicly try to bring the chairman, and therefore the club, into disrepute was disgraceful.

Saying that I don't place all the blame on Luka's shoulders. if he despised the club and it's hierarchy then he wouldn't be turning up and putting everything into pre season. Rather I suspect he was very ill advised and I think both Agent and Chelski need to shoulder a lot of the blame. And for that reason I really don't think he deserves to be called "a rat faced bastard".

I've "goated". Not becuase I don't know or care but I think a little (or maybe even a lot) of each has come out of the whole affair - as perhaps it did with Rooney at Man U earlier in the year.

Just don't call me a goat with no opinion!

I voted but I still think it's too early to tell. If we go on a great run at the start of the season, Modric playing brilliantly and picking up points all over the shop, then we have truly 'won' and showed a real finger to the clubs like Chelsea.

Yes was closest to the answer I'd give.
If we can get him back onside which it looks like we have then I'd say we've got a significant victory over the forces of evil and money.
If we get a top level signing out of it then good too.
There could be a problem with the numtie element amongst our support but it looks like Modders was manipulated and or pressured into doing what he did and might not be so happy with those people now.

What a load of bollox! Our best player wanting to go to one of our biggest rivals is good for the club?

Nooooooooooot really. Not at all really, at all.

The only way it could be considered good is more confidence in the establishment in charge - but that's only from the fans POV. Though that would be lost should we not improve on the squad over the summer as a whole. The club has taken a battering over this.

Even while it was in full swing part of me was fantasising that the whole thing was a plot hatched in the devious minds of Daniel Levy, and willing henchman, Luka Modric. The aim being to waste Chelsea's time, make them look ineffectual and make us look strong at lastEek

I don't really know. I've voted yes as for the first time in living memory we have resisted the advances of a wealthier club and that has to be a good thing. And I have maintained all along that Roman was using us as whipping boys to show that he can compete with Citeh, so their failure must also be a good thing.

But, if you can discern through Brett's madness, he does have a point - to significant portions of the football supporting World, no matter how idiotic we might feel their understanding to be, we have been interpeted as a crappy, poor club, forcing a great player to stay against his will, when he clearly wants to join a wealthier club and progress his career.

On the one hand, we look like we really mean business and will no longer be walked over by players and clubs; on the other, players who may have been prepared to come to us as a step-up on the way to higher things may think twice now. If we go on to establish ourselves as genuine contenders that might not matter so much, but while we are loitering around the fringes, it could be an issue.

But I am going to be positive, and say = UP YOURS ROMAN:razz::razz::razz::razz::razz:

A Chelsea mate of mine admires our stance and says it is well overdue.
Players with long contracts should be made to honour that... however I'm surprised Modric hasn't mentioned in the press what would happen if Harry was offered promotion to the national team?

Slightly off topic, did anyone laugh when Chelsea were complaining about anti-semitism in Indonesia last week against Benyoun?
I wonder were the crowd hissing and singing nazi related songs like they have done at WHL over the years?

You are in a minority (of people that missed the point)

I guess you are a glass half empty kind of guy. It's not about what he wants, it's about what we get out of him staying.

Only good if the kick up the arse gets us anywhere.

Could be sitting talking about all the thins that they want to do, but unless they do some of it it wont help.

Well that's not what your poll is asking

Do I want him to stay? Yes. Do I think keeping him is best for the club? Yes. Do I think our best player publicly stating he wants to leave us for our 2nd biggest rivals is good for the club? Erm no :duh: You need to apply some real backward logic to see that as a positive.

I voted yes simply just for the reason that it is stating to other clubs that Tottenham has moved on from past years and is no longer the 'feeder' club it once used to be. In a way shows the intent Harry and Levy have of once again breaking into the top 4 and can only be good in attracting big names.

It could end up being usefull for attracting transfer targets. It shows the club are ambitious if they are holding onto their best players. It is also a massive victory over Chelsea and leaves them looking like their powers are on the wane. They went full throttle at signing Luka and used all the tricks in the book and failed.

Was it good that it happened? still a no.
