Schneiderlin is a pretty special player. His level of work rate and stamina/athleticism is hard to find in football period. Let alone when combined with an all around football skill set. I like the players we have, but I'm not sure if any can handle the role Schneiderlin was given as it is incredibly demanding physically. Let alone if one of our players could lead the league in distance travelled as well as tackles + interceptions like Schneiderlin has.
Ahhh right. But was it like that before poch took over soton is what I mean?

Why were they pissed with our low offer, why didn't they just say no and tell us what they want, you know negotiate. I don't understand this at all.

Sorry i have been to the Lane today.
We KNEW what Saints wanted but went in with a laughable offer.

I understand why we don't put in what they want 1st time but why do we put in offers that we know they won't accept? I know, let's piss off the team that we're about to have to negotiate with

I don't believe in the Soton storry that Spurs were only offering £10M. If that was the case, why was MM so upset over Soton going back on their promise (of selling him)? For sure MM would not have considered that he was closet to a Spurs move if that was all Spurs had to offer; as it would never had lead to anything remotely close to looking like a transfer, not to talk of an imminent one...

I seriously doubt MM gives a shit about Soton

MM is Musacchio and MS is Morgan Scheniderlin :D

Very grateful for your itk as always neo, but it comes from the Southampton side of things right? I think we have to be very skeptical of any info coming out of there right now. There's clearly a PR game going on with this transfer, and I think any news we get (from either side really) is probably going to be heavily slanted. I'm not saying Levy didn't play games with this, but I think certain people would be spreading those rumours whether he did or not.

I think Poch is a good manager, but typically managers have little influence over the athleticism of the players.

It's like having a manager who had the leading scorer on his team come to your team and you expect your regular striker to now lead the league in goals.

JJ did say Levy/Spurs not done anything wrong/played any games on this one (he qualified it with a. "Yet")

We're always a pain in the arse to do business with. There's no sentiment with DL, he is a bit different like that. At the same time there's nothing personal, just the rules of the game.

The issue for us as a club is that for all he does well for us there's a sense that because he doesn't get emotion, doesn't get humans, he sometimes misses out on the externalities - positive or negative - associated with every deal; he sometimes doesn't see the value because all he can understand is the price.

I agree and whilst on ocassions he secures good money and deals he sometimes misses the bigger picture ... like when Bentley's value dropped from 16 million to zero and we missed out on CL money over the Nelson/Zaha joke window.

Just read that Levy made a pronise to Modric and reneged, neither Luca and hie agent said that, where was that story made up? As I recall Levy said no on day one, end of, he did agree one more year and kept his word, admitted we wouldn't sell him to chelsea but I can't see Luca refusing Real to get a move to them.
Oh and chelsea never offered us more than their original offer, they just tagged kalou on valuing him at £12mil, remember kalou? he's the one they released the following season valuing him at fuck all.
I am also surprised by people being indignant that we offered a lower price than Saints originally asked for, on what planet is that unusual, even Liverpool tried for lower prices but importantly on that point if they were talking terms and prices they were obviously ready to sell Schneiderlin and have gone back on their word to him.

I think after this whole MS debacle we may have ended any possibility of ever dealing with Southampton in the future for thier players...

So that make 2 EPL until now then: Chelski and Soton. Feel tempted to include Gooners on that list, which makes it 3.

Friends come and go while enemies accumulates

I think this is one big clusterfuck that has been handled badly by Southampton and Schniederlin. Some of you lot licking your chops at Schniederlin going on strike would be fucking apoplectic at the tosser if he was doing that to us. Bottom line is, this **** is still being paid a kings fucking ransom to do a job the rest of the world would dream of. It's not like we are fucking ManU or RM. By all means ask for a move, but get in to work and do the job you're paid for.

This shit sets a dangerous precedent that I don't like at all. If we get CL and ManC decide to nick Poch of us, it will be us paying Schnierlin's wages while he sulks for a move to City.

On the other hand Southampton have behaved like two bob amateurs. If it;'s not asset stripping then it's the worst piece of football stewardship we've seen for quite a while. They've sold everything that moves and the only reason they are pissing in Schniederlin's wind is it's us and we are refusing to meet their 75m valuation. What did they think would happen if the sold every **** worth wank. Bit harsh expecting Schniederlin to stay behind and play the last walz whilst their titanic sinks slowly.

Exactly. Think he will be a spurs player come 1st step but really don't like the way he/agent are going about it.

Whether Spurs bid far lower than S'oton wanted or they want silly money is less important to me than the all too familiar situation of a manager wanting one specific player, the player wanting to come, but the deal not getting done.

From what i am told this morning some of this is our doing. MS was told he could go, we put in a lowball offer, Saints rejected with a firm WTF! attached. And now Saints are pissed off and are deciding to make a stand now, they have got what they wanted for each of the players that have left. MS is being guided by his agent. While this may well end up with MS coming our way, we have made ourselves a real pain in the arse to talk to and do business with.
This may not bother most people but for some reason i am starting to get a little bothered by it all.

This seems to our game plan on transfers recently. Agree deal with player and low ball the club knowing the players head has been turned

What other transfers have we done this for?

Verts, soldado, holtby, ade deals dragged for ages while we haggled over the fee when deals with the player seemed done.
I'm not saying those players went on strike or anything but once a player starts agreeing personal terms and details about the move it must be hard for the club to call off deals and get the players head back in the game

This is called negotiating, not low balling...both parties trying to get the best deal for themselves, certainly isn't a Spurs exclusive, even though it may seem so.

In fact you look at nearly every transfer these days, clubs agree personal terms with players before a deal is struck.
