While this is true, it's still three outright holding mids and still not enough forward drive and success in the middle third from deep. As I said before, I really do like Schneiderlin, but it's a senseless buy if Poch deems Capoue part of his plans and Sandro fit enough.
Yep, especially when you hear fees of £20m being banded about, the worlds gone mad if he's a 20 million pound footballer.

you say about available options but wanyama was his choice of signing. You don't want to accept that's what he wanted but that's what the evidence we have says

This isn't about bias mate. This is about speculating as to what is the more likely scheme, and considering the context of the problems he had while at Saints, including more recent evidence than the exact moment at which he purchased Wanyama. Wanyama was indeed his choice, and I don't blame him because he had no genuine "destroyer" options and he knew Wanyama was a worker. Is exactly the buy I'd have made in his place as well. But were he to bring in Schneiderlin to play alongside a CDM, he'd be displacing quite a bit of expensive talent. This is also true for both Sandro and Capoue, but one has been heavily linked away and we'd likely listen to a solid offer for the other, while we have a plethora of options capable of playing the No 8. It simply does not add up he'd bring Schneiderlin in for the position financially, and I think strategically it'd be a poor plan as well.

Surely more likely would be setting up the way he has previously?

I really can not understand the link with this player in terms of current and potential quality already at our club, why would we need him.

Is it because he played for Pocho?

Next we will be linked to Jose Fonte for £15m, and our fans will be lapping it up.

I wouldn't say so exactly. We then have to compare what options are already currently at the club and what resources he has available to what he had while at Saints. I certainly can't say you're wrong in what you expect, but I just can't see it considering what we already have.

I understand why people would like to sign him. Schneiderlin has played better in the past couple of seasons than our any of our current crop of centre mids. He has a great blend of skills and is a more rounded player than our other CMs as he doesn't have any big weaknesses to his game. He's got Premiership experience under his belt so wouldn't need the time to settle in and Poch already knows how he works.

The question is whether we need another centre mid, or rather who would he replace. We have plenty of CMs. The old boys (Sandro, Dembele) are very good, albeit limited, players who are settled at the club and well liked. When not carrying injuries they're great holding players. Bentaleb is coming along nicely and looks to be a very good prospect, and I do believe that Paulinho and Capoue deserve another season. The latter of whom I think would fit Poch's style perfectly.

Regardless, it's not a position I think we need to focus on unless the right deal came along. Even then I'd probably prefer a metronome type midfielder as I think we're still struggling from losing Modric. I had high hopes for Holtby as he's got the right skill set. He likes to keep the ball moving, is very energetic, not afraid to hassle and go in for challenges (even if he's not the greatest of tacklers), decent shot taker, decent at set pieces, looks for the forward pass and has a little bit of flair about him. The only problem is that he hasn't quite pulled it all together and got into the pace of the league. I think he's another Poch could do wonders with. He won't ever be Modric level, but he's got the right skills to play an important role.

Sorry Schneiderlin is not better than Dembele or Sandro also the potential of Bentaleb is greater i am pretty sure Holtby can be worked on as well.

Because none of our deeper midfielders can short pass. We need a ball recycler alongside Sandro to do the job Modric used to.

I didn't say Schneiderlin was better. I said he has played better than Dembele and Sandro in the last couple of seasons and has a good blend of attributes with no real weaknesses to his play. Dembele and Sandro have struggled for form due to injuries. Sandro spends too much time on the treatment table and Dembele never did seem to get over his hip injury, often not lasting 90 minutes. When at the top of their game, playing consistently, they have more about them than Schneiderlin. However, they have big flaws which make them frustrating players. Dembele can't pass forward and has a mental block when it comes to taking shots outside of the box. He really can hit a shot but is too reluctant to try a lot of the time. Sandro's got great mental and physical attributes but is average at best when it comes to control, dribbling and passing. To be fair, Sandro doesn't need to do anything more than win a ball back and look to release it quickly. I'd rather him than Dembele, when fit.

As for Bentaleb and Holtby - I have high hopes for them. Great set of skills and different types of players. I can see them being important under Poch but it's up to them to prove it. Who knows.

EXCLUSIVE - Mercato: Schneiderlin in contact with Tottenham advanced

The French middle Southampton Schneiderlin Mogan is in serious discussion with Tottenham. The case can result.
The future of Morgan Schneiderlin, the international environment of Southampton, who has just returned from World after the elimination of France in the quarterfinals, is now becoming clearer.

NO AGREEMENT FOR NOW

According to our information, Schneiderlin is indeed in advanced discussions with Tottenham. Management Spurs launched a concrete offensive in recent days. Negotiations held with Southampton on the transfer amount. With the player, the contract is also discussed. No agreement has been found, but in a close case, the contact is advanced and optimism reigns over an outcome of negotiations.

Pochettino VERY WELL KNOW ...
Regardless, the offensive on Tottenham Schneiderlin is not surprising. Mauricio Pochettino, who just moved to the sidelines Spurs led Southampton last season. He knows very well Schneiderlin Morgan and the reverse is also true.

Behind the Spurs, the English media continue to report an interest supported Arsenal d. But today it is the rival Tottenham which seems to hold the rope.

The Express have picked up on this now too...

FWIW, My arsenal supporting mate with a few contacts is adamant that Schneiderlin's going to them.

Schneiderlin is a better player than Sandro and Capoue,he isn't a kamikaze and is more a DM in the Carrick mould which is exactly what we need to play a more progessive game.

There a bit of carrick in capoue as well.

I don't see him as your out and out destroyer type. He's got a good passing range and, more importantly, he can spot a pass.

Him and Sandro against top 6 would be very difficult to break down.

Then, against lower teams, use Paulinho/Capoue to be slightly more attacking, and Bentaleb in cups etc.

Move Holtby to no.10, backup to eriksen, or if we don't sign a LW, Eriksen can go there, with Holtby in the middle.

Against top 6:

--Sandro-----Schneiderlin
Lamela----Holtby---Eriksen
----------Soldado---------

Kind of underlines both our strength and our weakness if we can say we don't need Schneiderlin. I don't think we do need him given the options we already have, but the club thinking about buying him somewhat underlines why we are so unbalanced overall as a team

If we need another midfielder and despite being overloaded with them I think we do, then we need a real quality playmaker, someone to sit deep, keep the team ticking over, pulling the strings and spreading the passes

I would have him instead of Dembele but for me Dembele is already an excess player, besides the speculation is Soton want £20 mill which to me doesn't represent great value. I'd rather sell Dembele and use the money to get a decent playmaker than sell Dembele, re invest in Schneiderlin and be five to eight mill down and still need a playmaker

I think Capoue is a much better more complete player than Schneiderlin great vision and awareness, more composed, stronger in the air, better passing range, better timer of tackles, maybe not as much of a harrier and presser, but none the less strong and pragmatic in the tackle when necessary
Sandro may not be as strong in his passing as Schneiderlin, but on form and fully fit he is a much bigger presence and driving force
