I don't really know who is reliable and who isn't. Any of those particularly trustworthy or not?
Times should be and Mirror (Lipton) have been good with us this window. Telegraph one written by Matt Law so questionable at best.

The Mirror one is very interesting because Martin Lipton said on Talksport last night that he expected Schneiderlin and Rodriguez to sign for us.

Somebody asked me yesterday how far I would go and I said 22 million - maybe higher lol

But seriously that is a very fair offer IMO.

If he refuses to train this will get very messy but they'll be forced to accept it really.

All hinges on us making a suitable offer which 22 million most definitely is - if accurate.

So the ones that say what we want to hear are correct and the one that basically states what we heard yesterday but isn't what we want to hear is questionable? Your at risk of turning a bit RAWK!

Assuming we play 4-2-3-1 which seems to be the case then we only have two spots up for grabs and we have:

Carroll
Bentelab
Dembele
Sandro
Paulinho
Capoue
holtby

7 first team cm players with 2 spots up for grabs and I'd argue weve only seen the best out of one them so far. Sandro during the champions league run and first half of avb's first season

I'd recommend we spend every gold coin we have at the back personally

Dembele in the first half of AVB's season playing with Sandro?

To be fair Matt Law has been way off with our stuff in the Telegraph.

thinking about Schneiderlins value you would assume Levy and the club use some sort of formula to work out the value of players and how much they are willing to pay. I don't know how they would do that or how it would work but would assuming they would not leave it to simple guesswork.

Alan Nixon is the Journo from the Mirror that has been good with Spurs stuff. I don't think Lipton has called anything yet.

Matt Law said we were bidding for John O'Shea FFS- that's why I don't trust him...he's got very little correct regarding our transfers. If it was written by someone like Jason Burt, I would find it much more reliable...

Rory smith at the times is ok but matt law at the telegraph is useless. He never gets a thing about us right. Lipton at the mirror covers us and Chelsea I think.

Let Liverpool have him and Jay Rod then they will have 5 players who finished 8th last year meaning they have a good chance of finishing ??? next season?

What I am finding astonishing is how we are all (well 95% of us) spelling "Schneiderlin" correctly whereas previously many struggled with Zakora, Lemala, Cabellos, Saldado, Nelson etc.

£22m is ridiculous. I would understand levy not going to £18m let alone £22m

The problem is though that, although I believe some of the problems have been down to having an extreme lack of tactical appreciation, understanding and direction coming from the coaching staff the last couple of years, too many of our midfielders just do not seem able to get the ball and move it on again quickly. I'm not asking for or expecting a Modric-type who will go round dictating the game and making the game look effortlessly easy as he hits yet another pass off the outside of his foot, but I do want to see intelligent players who see what is unfolding in front of them and keep the ball moving quickly and efficiently.

I agree a 4-2-3-1 is likely and the two centre mids will have to be defensively and particularly positionally very sound, read the game well and cover for players caught up the pitch, and also have a decent passing game and be able to spring the ball up the pitch. Really needs to be quite a good all-rounder and its a demanding role.

Out of all those you have listed:

Carroll - Better suited to a three man central midfield. Seems to suffer a lack of confidence which is holding him back but will probably get a bit longer to see if he blossoms.

Bentaleb - Potential is there, I think he is best served as understudy though to a more established player. Allows him to learn his craft and get a regular run of games.

Dembele - Basically a deeper midfield version of Adel Taarabt. Give him a ball to himself whilst the rest of the game gets on with it... Useless against teams that sit deep with his 15 million touches and 15 seconds wasted only to give a square pass. Also perma-crocked.

Paulinho - Don't see where he fits in to a 4-2-3-1. Again, doesn't move the ball quickly enough on evidence so far, and doesn't see the game happening in front of him.

Sandro/Capoue - Keep as they can break up play and then spring it forward, Capoue probably has the edge in this regard.

Holtby - Said it many times, not a central midfielder in my opinion. Tactically and postionally very weak. Should be played further forward.

Sandro/Capoue/Schneiderlin as the three established options with Bentaleb, Mason and Carroll all still in the mix learning their trade and fighting it out to get a chance seems enough to me (you still have Veljkovic and Holtby who could play there, fuck even Chadli has some experience playing centre mid now if we had a real injury crisis...). You could sell two of them (say Dembele and Paulinho) to cover for a central midfield option and still have a wealth of options in my opinion. That would raise additional funds to strengthen elsewhere.
