This is gutting, for us and for Mousa, but I'd suggest that this is appropriate. As a professional and role model, it needs to be stamped out and this "post-game trial by video" is a good thing.

I agree it's hard to take given the very similar incidents that have taken place (Torres, Suarez, Costa) that have gone unpunished, but that doesn't change what Dembele did. I hope he learns from this. He doesn't usually come across as someone who might lose his head, despite the power and aggression he shows on the field.

I think this is a little OTT. He had a good disciplinary record up until this indiscretion and has never been a dirty player. Chelsea baited us before the game and the match was hotly contested and tense. It was a heat of the moment incident, with players and arms flaying everywhere. A 3 match ban I feel was fairs as he didn't contest the incident but 6 matches is harsh. Costa and Fabregas get off Scot free even though they antagonised the situation. The referee was also pants....no bottle at Stamford Bridge.

How we will miss him.
Sorry but to me this seems excessive.

I think it is considering his previous record, the context of the game and the fact that Costa was involved. Also bearing in mind the punishment Suarez received as a serial biter who actually did some damage. Dembele will just have to suck it up though and learn a lesson.

Surely Dembele would be eligible to return after the fourth game next season, (and not the fifth as reported in the Beeb) if he misses the last two games of this season?

I think it's excessive, haven't looked up his disciplinary record but I'd say it's pretty good, whereas Costa not so much, not excusing the action but I would have thought 4 max, obviously preferred 3. Think he might be paying the price for everything else that went on. Thought I read that the club would appeal if it was more than 3 anyway, so mightn't be finished yet.

Really hard isn't it to say "how much" punishment is due, is 5 too few? Is 7 too many games to be banned?

There is no correct length, but I guess they go with precedent and how other "similar" offences have been punished in the past.

I can see that many will find this too offensive, but some may suggest the opposite.

I'm not very bothered about these last 2 games, he has earned a rest, but you can guarantee we'll play at least 2 of our big rivals in the first 4 games of next season.

It's a new precedent from the PL. How can so many players get very light punishment ( Torres, Costa, Shawcross, Suarez etc) for being regularly dirty players (not so much Torres as his was only really bad against Verts ) and get very little.
It's not as if Dembele is a serial offender like these others.
I just think it's really OTT for a one-off.
Just my opinion.

Definitely understand the F.A. point of view. Weird how it's always Chel$ea?

Gutting. This could cost us points at the start of next season that we'll no doubt regret at the end of the season. Moussa has been that important. Having said that, we need to buy back up for Dier anyway, he can't play every game...

Other offences in the past have been dealt with much more leniently. The irony is that I believe Torres poking Vertonghen in the eye was the catalyst to bring in harder rules.

The lesson to learn is that you should never trust any bastard in a different jersey, especially those snide Chel$cum rats.

Anything up to 12 weeks for gouging in rugby, however, that generally involves a player making contact with an opponents eye....
There was obviously some sort of intent on Dembele's part so there isn't any excuse but the media have really blown it up.
I trust all incidents from now on are going to be subject to as much scrutiny because if they aren't then people need to ask why.

There ought to be an appeal, but there's that business about possibly using Wembley Stadium.
It doesn't change what happened, but I can't help wondering if that slag Costa would have been punished at all if he'd gouged an opponent. After all, he's never been punished for anything else, has he?

The FA have possibly made a rod for their own backs here.
