Kanoute was a brilliantly talented striker, but it wasn't until he moved to Spain that he proved he could apply those talents consistently.

He didn't score anywhere near regularly enough when he was here.

This is true, however a lot of his good work was holding the ball up and pulling wide to try and give us some control and quality in the last 3rd. When you consider we had the likes of Simon Davies and Andy Reid out wide we certainly needed the genuine quality of kanoute to drop deep and not just concentrate on his goal tally.

Simon Davies was a very handy player for us, before his injuries took away a yard of pace.

I like the look of the kid and he seems to have a decent scoring record. Has anyone actually seen him play as a lone striker, because Fulham play a 442 quite a lot don't they with him and McCormack?

If not, I really don't see the point in us signing this kid when we have just added Harrison to our first team squad. Technically very good, has consistently scored goals at all levels, has a good brain, has frequently played as a lone striker, has even played as a 10 for the u18's.

Seems to me the only thing Dembele had on him is a year in age and 20 appearances in the Championship.

I'm not knocking the kid, seems promising and I'd much rather we bought his potential than Berahino's vastly over priced incompatible averageness, but seems a little bit pointless to me when we have a player who could probably fit that "potential" remit without us spending a dime?

Think Harrison is a decent prospect as a 'nine and a half'. Think we are looking at other young strikers simply because if we have 2 or 3 good young strikers at that kind of age group we have a better chance of bringing one through.

It seems as if a lot of clubs, both PL and a few from Italy are after Dembele who is very different to Harrison, and think its actually a good thing.

BTW we are also linked with Ademola Lookman from Chalton (3 goals in about 10 appearances), but so are Arsenal, ManCity, Chelsea et al, so its a moot point if we get either - again a striker probably more like Dembele than Harrison.

If we do get one of them, I'm not sure whether they will move immediately to Spurs or whether they will stay with their existing clubs for the rest of the season and then link up with Spurs in pre-season (ie in effect an acquisition for next season).

What do you think of Dembrle SI, can you describe him to me - I've only seen highlight reels which don't give you a picture of his all round attributes. Someone compared him to Kanoute but the clips I've seen don't show that, they suggest more of a Papis Cisse to me but like I said highlight reels don't show what strikers are doing outside the box, his hold up play, his awareness, technique, intelligence etc?

I suppose the point is that for the here and now, we need a player who not only has potential, but could offer us a reasonable alternative for Kane this season if needed.

I don't claim to have seen a huge amount of Harrison, but I think those 40 appearances (and a pretty good goal return) at a good level for Dembele put him quite a bit ahead of Harrison who has only played at a junior level so far.

If it was a case of purely wanting someone for the future I'd agree with you that it's worth investing in what we've got, but we also need someone who can get goals this season and I suppose the thought is that Dembele is much more likely to do that at this stage than Harrison.

Of course if we're talking about a signing for the Summer then you do have to question whether they rate Harrison or not.

Generally agree with that, Dembele's experience puts him about a year ahead of Harrison, and additionally he's physically a lot more developed than Harrison - it might take Harrison another year to put on the muscle he needs - not to say Harrison isn't a good prospect and more of a 'nine and a half' like Kane than Dembele is or will be.

I've probably not seen anything more than you, but I'd preface everything by saying that he's 19 and will develop with good coaching, so I'd say he has decent speed and technique for his age but a lot of things need working on - he's very raw - so don't think we'd see more than a couple of appearances for us this season if he came.

If Dembele is playing as part of a front 2 with Mcormick, then I'd assume he's playing more of the target role, as Mcormick isn't that big or robust if memory serves me correctly. I think Dembele would be a decent shout, whether the comparisons to Kanoute are accurate or not I couldn't say.
Ultimately, he's available, but I'm guessing it's more likely going to be a pre-contract thy an instant signing.
Shilow Tracey as a RWF/AM, Lookman seems to be more of a LWF from comments I've read on here, then Demebele as a 9 gives us three talented players to cover the frontline, perhaps not instant rewards, but definitely an eye on the longer term. Harrison also in the mix a little further along.

Still wonder if there'll be a signing for this season, or if we'll just look at these with next season in mind, go with what we have for now.
