Dembele - Spurs a 'step up'

Fulham forward admits move across London does appeal.

Spurs are reported to have an interest in Dembele,

and it has been suggested that they remain keen on adding the 24-year-old to their ranks.
Arsenal

and Liverpool

have also been linked with the former AZ Alkmaar

man, who is doing anything but rule out a move.
Asked about the reports of interest from Spurs, he told De Standaard: "Yes, I heard that.
"It would obviously be a step higher, and that has always been my goal.
"I did well last season when I was not injured, through many matches for Fulham.

So why not step higher?"
Evolving

Dembele has often played in a deep role for Fulham, but he says he is working on getting more shots on goal during matches.
"My thinking has changed somewhat. I shoot much more on target. The Fulham coach says that I'm evolving," he said.
"In the past, I could have gone four games and not taken a shot at goal. That no longer happens.
"Each match I shoot four times. I have also scored. Not enough, I know, but it will come."

Good player and definitely a player that could improve our team.
Could replace Dos Santos/Pienaar in the squad.

As a second striker playing in Van De Vaart Role he'd be alright but his goals records poor.

Good player...would like to know his best position tho. Cant see him as a CM, but also doesnt score enough for a CF.

Just do it, under rated player, upgrade on Pav and would allow us to play the same way when Adebayor/VDV aren't playing.

Cavani's goal scoring record was nothing special until he was played down the middle, just need the right fit.

Same applies.

I'd swap him for GDS in a heartbeat, Pienaar is only back and we'll see more of him now hopefully. Better player again than a lot give him credit for.

You sure you know who he is?

Second striker. He's not a lone striker, if that's what you meant. Not really comparable to Cavani except for that they both played on the wing. Which, ironically, is where we'd have to play him if he wanted a regular starting position.

Still think there are better RW/SS players out there for less.

It wasn't intended as a direct comparison, just an example of people looking at stats and thinking that a player is nothing special when all that was needed was a good fit. A team that could get the best out of him. Napoli is exactly that whilst Palermo wasn't.

The national team isn't a good fit for him but with Forlan's days coming to an end that should change.

He isn't anything special, he's a decent versatile player with good feet. With his build you'd think he'd make a good striker, but look at Pav ffs.

He's not scored goals regularly anywhere during his career really, is he good enough for our midfield? Not really. Is he more of a goal threat than JD and Ade? Hmmmn...dunno.

Daresay the money could be better spent elsewhere, plus you just know Fulham would rip the piss with the fee as it's us.

I do like him, don't think he's anything to get excited about. The Fulham fans should be ripping with a statement like that, although knowing the press it may very well be out of context.

Depends on the price really, wouldn't pay more than £6m for him.

To be fair to the guy he has said recently that in the past his main priority was to create chances and make space for others. This pre-season Jol said to him; "I want goals from you this year." So he has been focusing on getting more goals and although he hasnt immediately increased his average record that doesnt make him any less of a player.

I think he can be a dangerous player when surrounded by a higher quality set of teammates. He would be a very good addition to the squad in place of GDS and he could play off the RW or in the VDV role.

I agree that he would add more to the squad than GDS does, but i don't think he's good enough to be a main player for us.

That being said i've had enough of GDS and Pav and i'd be willing to give Dembele a chance in either of their places, even though i've got the feeling he's a bit wank.

lol@replacing Pienaar.

GDS Yes, Stevie P. No.

I don't particularly see Dembele as a striker.

Dembele can play as an attacking midfielder,as a winger as well as a striker.
He can play on the left, right and down the middle.

So yes he definitely could replace GDS and Pienaar.

He is a player who is very good at holding the ball and keeping possession,he is strong, quick, intelligent and very useful on the ball.

However if Fulham are looking for anything around £10 million mark or more.........we won't buy him.

Personally I think that, at Fulham, Dembele has probably just about found his level.

He's a decent player yes, very tidy and strong, but his low number of assists and goals tells you that in the final 3rd he doesn't do enough to hurt the opposition.

An upgrade on Pav? Possibly, although they are not like-for-like as Dembele sits deeper, and he wouldn't be anything more than a squad player/sub. Add to that our experience that buying from a Prem club always adds about £5m to any price tag and I'd suggest there are players of equal talent floating around other leagues who would represent better value for money.
