This has been quite a summer of change at the Lane and we have strengthened the first team and squad beyond what any one of us could have expected. Whilst we are all becoming excited and enthusiastic about our prospects this season I have one little concern in my mind.

Whilst we have done well to get a great price on Bale (and over valuation if I'm honest - but supply/demand I suppose) we have brought in some top quality players with that money and with those players comes wages. Some of these players are going to be on pretty big wages.

As much as i love the new transfer policy does anyone think that we may be overspending when you factor in wages too? How are we going to afford all this?
If you knew anything about Daniel Levy you would not have started this thread.

Not concerned at all, Levy would never put this club into financial trouble.

Don't forget it was only a few short months ago that we were saying we couldn't compete with the cheque book clubs like chelsea and citeh and now all of a sudden we can?

But we can't. The only player we've tried to buy that Chelsea were in for as well, they've blown us out of the water. City got all their business done early doors, so aren't in the market either.

We've gone after young and talented but not very well paid players on the whole, and offloaded a load of over-paid squad players

Media suggested salaries for players we've signed: Paulinho £70k pw, Soldado £75k pw. Can't find confirmed for anyone else, but Capoue was on around £20k pw at Toulouse and Lamela was on £23k pw at Roma so they won't be on silly money

If we can offload Adebayor, I'd be surprised if we actually came out that much down on everything

Probably remaining the same may have even have lowered the wage bill.

Thud - 40K??
Bentley - 50k?
Gallas - £60k??
Caulker - £20k??
Clint Dempsey £80k??
Scott Parker - £80k??

300 - 350k approx

Lamela - £60k??
Soldado - £80K??
Capoue - £40k??
Chadli - £20K
Eriksen - £40K??
Chiriches - £20K
Paulinho - £80K

300 - 350k

The previous season we had a big clear out
VDV, Modric, King, Corluka, Kranjcer, Jenas, Pienaar, Cudicini,
With Dembele, Dempsey, Adebayor, LLoris In

If we get rid of Adebayor we will have controlled the wage bill very well.

Wowser, I didn't realise Dempsey and Parker were on so much. I would have thought it was a maximum of 50k each.
As I have said obviously I trust Levy knows what the craik is but it is just as obvious to me that this window is likely to be an isolated occurrence least til we build the stadium

Parker was defo on that much. He's been on loads for years since Chelsea, then made a succession of moves seemingly based on the club's ability to match it

Not majorly. Parker, Gallas, Huddlestone and Dempsey will have cleared 200k p/w easily. Bale will probably clear another 100k ish off the wage bill. Then we've got more players who'll be leaving, maybe Adebayor who'd take another 80-100k off. That's about 400k p/w removed with other players like Gylfi possibly going as well.

Then you look at the incomings. Chiriches is on 23k p/w, Chadli probably not much more than that (i'd guess 30-40k), Paulinho's on about 70k p/w, Soldado i'd guess about 80k p/w, Capoue probably wouldn't be on any more than 40k p/w and Lamela is on 40k p/w or 65k p/w depending on who you believe. That add's up to roughly 318k p/w (taking the max of each of those figures) plenty of room for the wages of Eriksen and others.

Edit: Forgot about Bentley as well. That's gotta be 50/60k p/w gone as well.

This is pretty much how I remember figures being quoted - saves me making a post :)

In fact...

If there's one thing I'm not worried about its levy and money.

...this is the shorter, but equally correct, answer :)

The funny thing (or sad thing) is if we sell Adebayor it will help pay about half our new signings wages
