I am now officially fed up! I went to the Newcastle game on Saturday and was yet again frustrated! I didn't make an "impulse" post as that is not my style.....

It is clear for every fan of our club out there that we need a striker! Not a Diarra not a Parker not a Pieener not even a Beckham A STRIKER! However we haven't made any progress with one....

Going into the transfer window I felt we had an outside chance in getting top four based on the form of Chelsea. However it was imperative that we signed a striker early on due to the importance of the fixtures in January and to maintain momentum!

So with the transfer window drawing to a close and those 4 teams above us pulling away why would any business invest in a striker? The odds are so stacked aginst us that in my opinion it would be commercial suicide.

Taking all this into consideration please don't expect a striker signing and also please don't expect a top four finish with a striker that hasn't scored in 8 league games a striker that doesn't get a chance because his face doesn't fit and as for keane and crouch I dont want to get started...

My biggest concern is one that not many have picked up on... How do you think our world class players in Bale and Luka feel? They potentially had a chance to be part of a team that was about to push on and have a chance at some serious honours but instead of putting our money where our mouth is and go out and bring a world class striker in just like city did (twice -Balloteli and Dzeko) we hide behind our 65k salary cap... Money which we have as well....

I know there will be fellow supporters out there saying you are writing us off to early but take a step back and if you look at it realistically you will see that Europa football next year is the best we can wish for.

We all have our opinions and I think that's what forums are for and above you have mine!

A classic case of a delayed knee-jerk reaction. Give it a couple of days and a shiny new striker and you'll be grand ;-)

I'm also extremely frustrated that the one player we do really need hasn't materialized and agree with many of your comments antlesh but to be fair to 'Arry and Levy who has such a tight hold on the purse strings there really aren't many strikers of the category that we need available.
Hopefully in the next few days they get it sorted, because if they don't then I expect many fans will turn on Levy for always having to wring the last cent out of every negotiation he gets involved with.

You know what pal I will happily eat my words however I feel it is a little late now.... Dropped points at everton could have caused a stir against united and pretty confident we would have got three points in Newcastle...

Break the bank and bring in Suarez he has said he wants to come to London... The guy is the next Tevez!

In my opinion I haven't seen enough from Carroll to justify the 25 mil Newcastle would entertain therefore I disagree with this one although I think the kid has bags of potential...

So what you are saying is you would be happy with Europa League? Do you not think that is a bit of a backward step?

Happy with the Europa League? Not on your nelly. I would call that failure.

Redknapp has gone from talking us up as title contenders to giving us the two points from eight games spiel. Again.

I agree with the sentiment - we need a striker and have done for an age. Just trying to remain optimistic that one is on the way and we can wrestle 4th spot from one of the teams above us. We're not that far of them either.

Levy is all about the last minute bargain.

We all know that so we have to accept it.

In the long run it's kinda worked out.

Personally we should have got one last summer...can't believe we didn't

You see that's what frustrates me more the fact that we are not a million miles away! If we were I probably wouldn't feel this way!

I too am frustrated but u need to understand the market is is hard, look at how much Bent, Desko etc went for. Foriegn clubs see Chealsea and City spending big and think all clubs in England will do the same. The players are the same demanding big money, say we pay £100K a week, do u not think Moddrs, Bale, VdV will want to be top earners too? Its a slippery slope without a sugar daddy. Levy needs to wait to see if the demands will lower towards the end of the window or face spending top doller then having the back lash of unhappy players.

As antlesh is saying, we're down to basically a week before the deadline closes and the strong, hold up old English style centre forward is nowhere to be seen. At this point I'd take Suarez or Forlan as the strikers we have at present leave a lot to be desired and although neither of the above two fits the bill 100% how much longer can we go on hoping that our midfield players score the vital goals we need to keep us in the hunt for one of the top 4 spots ?
As much as I'm sure Levy wants to do his best for the club's future and taking into consideration the enormous amount of personal money he has involved, apart from his father=in=laws, other CEO's are now fully aware of his negotiating ability and are less inclined to being out manouvered by him. Either that or they'll add a lot extra $$$$ meaning it becomes a waiting game that only gets decided on the final day of the transfer window being open.......and therein lies Levy's advantage as he seems to have the money available to make a big buy but will it be the one 'Arry wants.
Seems to me of late that most of the transfers in are more to Levy's style than 'Arry's.

This, though I fully understand your frustration. I've staggered into off-topic mode a couple of times in the 'itk discussion thread' about my frustration about the missed opportunity of signing a striker in the summer.

Levy obviously did well getting VDV in, but by all accounts it came very, very late in the day. As it transpired, the VDV signing was a fantastic coup, which also served to paper over the glaring omission of a much-needed new striker.

I had hoped that Levy and co would have made sure that as soon as the window opened, a new striker was signed (with the formalities already arranged), but instead we're almost certainly going to let this go to the deadline day...gambling on getting a good deal.

Obviously this isn't a computer game. We're dealing with real people and big-money business, so it's to be expected that things will be complicated. Unfortunately we're not in a position to do a Man City and simply pay well over the odds to bring whoever we want in, so we have to trust the club that they will bring in the right player.

I'm not particularly confident that we'll sign anyone else, but lets wait until the window has closed (or a few hours after ) before making any final thoughts on how well Levy and Harry have utilised our current status as a Champions League club.

To be honest I would say the oposite is true.

Happily.. However just before I do I will refear you to 1 the title of the thread and 2 the statement at the end of the initial post that this is all my opinion.
As a man who has to make business decisions on a daily basis that could affect future business I will always weigh up all options before going ahead. So I am fairly confident Levy will also do this...

3 points behind 4th
Not having a striker already established in this league capable of scoring 20 goals + van p, drogba or anelka, tevez, rooney or berbs
Lack of form 2 points from a possible 9 is not top 4 quality..

Do you want me to go on? As a gambler I know I wouldn't be backing us to finish top 4 as much as it hurts me because I am thinking realistically.

I think Harry sends a little electronic mail saying I'm interested in x,y or z u and sits back and waits for the updates from Mr Levy when and if they come...

Well that is what Harry says he does, points out targets and Levy tries to get them.....
