Football: English club 'seeks Hong Kong investor'

HONG KONG: A Hong Kong newspaper on Monday carried an advertisement claiming to be seeking an investor partner for what it said was a "famous" English football club "with a rich history".

The club was not named and there was no immediate response to a query sent by AFP to an email address provided on the low-key advert, which appeared in the news section of the English-language daily South China Morning Post.

The advert said the club was a founder member of the Premier League, boasted a "top-class stadium" and was looking to get back in the Premier League "in the next few years".

Birmingham City are a former Premier League club owned by Carson Yeung, who faces money-laundering charges in Hong Kong.

However, Birmingham were not one of the founder members of the Premier League.

Any ideas???

Reckon it's Leeds, they failed to get taken over recently and they were probably relying on that investment.

The next few years bit is the most telling IMO. A club like Ipswich, Blackburn, or Boro should be looking to get back next year...

West Ham would probably argue that they invented the Premier league even though they took one of their much deserved breaks from it at the time.
It looks a classy enough add to be them.

My post above rated DUMB? I'm fairly new to this forum but can someone explain why? And what is the purpose of DUMB votes anyway?

My guess would be Coventry - they have the stadium but are absolutely skint and are reliant on freebies, journeymen and young kids which, if any are good enough, are sold on to the bigger clubs to keep them afloat. The lad Bigirmana (sp?) has gone to the Barcodes for a million and Cyrus Christie who looks a good prospect will probably be next if he hasn't gone already. It's not a certainty they'll bounce straight back up to the Championship, but with investment and a new manager and players they oughta have little difficulty, League One this year won't be as strong as in past years

Failing that Boro would be my guess, as Gibson doesn't chuck his wallet at it so much any more, and they are heavily reliant on their production line of youngsters who are generally decent but not good enough for a concerted promotion push. Because they were Prem for so long there is a perception that they will be up there every year and with some renewed investment and experience to go with the youth they might do, they have a good manager. But i wouldn't have them as a tip to go up as it stands

Common probem with those using iPads I thinks. Often gets hit by mistake. Or the poster is a complete wanker. Usually one of the two anyway.
