It’s quite clear that Tanguy Ndombélé wasn’t the happiest of footballers at Tottenham, but the extent of his discontent appears to have come to light.

It was obvious to most of us he’d had lost that appetite to play for us.

To me it always felt like the club wanted to sell, the agent wanted a fee and he was never that keen on England. No doubt he is a talent, he can do things 90% of players can’t do but if ur head isn’t right your never gonna do well.

Conte's comments from earlier today are worth reading. He goes to town on our transfers in recent years and while he doesn't mention Tanguy specifically, he makes a general comment about the difficulty of the PL being such that comparing it to another league would be akin to trying to compare to a different sport. He is bang on and this is why the biggest criticism on the TN fiasco is with the club for taking him in the first place. He was never going to survive in this league given the mismatch between his fitness history and the extremely high demands of the league. Poch really landed us in the shit with that one if as rumours have it, it was him that pushed hard for Tanguy.

Hopefully he regains the taste for football, tears it up at Lyon, and bags us a bumper transfer fee at the end of the season.

Alright mate. I didn't see massive amount of dissenters when he signed. Everyone can make the correct call in hindsight.

Footballers like him are pathetic really. You get this gift to play football for a living and you act like a privileged twat. If clubs at least had the right to implement performance related pay, this sort of BS would end overnight.

Maybe signed hoping the cheese room would be back on the cards?
If only Daniel had taken him for a little personal tasting session, with our presumable Club Turophile, could have been the personal touch he needed to commit, aswell as a cute emergency.

I know many won't agree with me but in a way I feel bad for him.

Obviously he's being paid a king's ransom and he's doing a job we might all love to do and yes he's supremely talented....

But if this is a mental health issue or depression then no amount of money or love of the game can get you up in the morning.

It seems to be a similar situation to Dele in that he's got some kind of mental block that has prevented him from performing to his best.

He said he'd lost his passion for football. To be fair that could be caused by so many things that we are not privy to so I would say calling him pathetic is harsh.

But I agree with the performance related pay

But then again, most opinions on here were based on an impressive YouTube reel and it is easy to get carried away on those. You'd have hoped the club did the right due diligence before deciding to spunk £55m on a record signing. The giveaway sign is that unlike Diaz in this window, no one else was seriously in for him.

Yup, and then we can all tell him to fuck off with a bit more confidence

I’m not too optimistic about him going to Lyon and us getting anything back on him after reading that, sounds like he knows he’s set for life and he just can’t be arsed, The guy has checked out.
He knows he’s got another £20m in salary coming to him over the next two years, that’s an awful lot of chicken….

Doesn't do much to generate a sense of sympathy or empathy. In fact, it generates an even greater sense of the blokes lack of professionalism.

My opinion of course.

I'd imagine a fair few, and I include myself in this, lost the taste for their job a long time ago. But had little choice but to remain professional and carry on.

Whilst i undertstand its hard to settle in a new country etc. It doesn't excuse the lack of effort.

Sad thing is, he'll be largely forgotten for his football within a couple of years. Then will just be a footnote for his transfer fee. He could have been remembered fir something far greater.
