New GK or not?

Most people and, on balance, myself are expecting the club to sign a new GK over the Summer. There is no doubt that Robbo has not been the same since the divet incident in Croatia. He has lost a great deal of confidnce which has manifested itself in an inability to come for crosses and an uncanny ability to let in long shots that he should do better with.

However, I would like nothing more than to see Robbo back to his best between the sticks at the Lane. He is a great club man and has a terrific rapport with the funds. The problem is it is probably too much of a gamble, particularly as bringing in any additional keepers as "back up" will hit his confidence further. He may also think he has a better chance of getting his form back in new surroundings.

Any views?

We need at least one keeper to replace Cerny. It's thought that Alnwick/Button/Forecast et al just aren't ready to step up yet.

IMO Robbo will never get back to his former form whilst at Spurs. I think he needs a fresh start. I think he will be a top keeper again, but not at Tottenham.

I think that if Robbo is happy to stay and fight out it for the No.1 spot then OK, but we need a top, top GK in this summer and if Robbo isn't up for the challenge then we also need a back-up.

Seconded, as a Oilers fan I remember when Tommy Salo screwed up goal against Belarussia in Olympics quarter-finals and he totally lost his confidence after that and didn't found it again until he went to play back to Sweden again. So that's what Robbo need, new team.

I think every Spurs fans would love Robbo to turn into a world-class no. 1. But afraid that's not going to happen. His form has gone down for the last two years and I can't see a sudden change over the summer.
Spurs will need at least one new goalie this summer. I think - as some ITKs have told - that Spurs may even go for two new ones.
A pity Lyon snapped up Hugo Lloris as I think he's quality goalie in the making.
My first choice would be Rene Adler. After him I'd go for either: Neuer, Ochoa, Mandanda or Akinfeev. Viviano could be a good back-up, but sent out on loan for a season to gain experience.
Or take Coupet and have Mandanda, Viviano or Ochoa as 2nd choice.

Sadly we need two Gk.

Robbo may regain form but it won't be at Spurs.

we need at least 1, to replace Cerny, as for replacing Robbo, i still strugle to see a keeper who would be vastly better for the right price that would make it worthwhile signing them

I dont think Robbo will go but will work with the new goalkeeping coach to see if anything can be salvaged. I agree with a comment before where we would struggle to get in a better keeper for the money but we do need a replacement for Cerny.

Wildly improbable, unfortunately. Apparently he's turned down a move to Bayern, so I honestly don't see us having much of a chance.

Much as I'd like Robbo to stay, I tend to go with the view that a fresh start with a new club is what he needs if he's going to regain the form of two-three seasons ago.

The trouble is, there seem to be drawbacks to many of the keepers (about 35!) with whom we've been linked. Of the ones I've actually seen, Adler (although, amazingly, we haven't been linked to him) and maybe Mandanda are perhaps the best bets. I really rated Gomes on his Eredivisie performances, but against us his flaps (quite as bad as Robbo's) and his lack of communication with his defence was pretty alarming. Great shot-stopper, though, as is Kameni—who's also maybe too much of a wild man. Lopez I haven't really seen, and he has an eye-watering buy-out clause. I really don't see Coupet happening: a year or so ago he was making noises in the French press about signing up for the MLS, and I suspect that's what he'll do. And so on. I think we may be looking at Viviano and Brezovan as back-ups.

It is an absolute minefield, especially if we're looking for two keepers; if the first choice turns out to be another Barthez (or worse, Talbi) the second has to be good enough to step right in. I absolutely do not envy Ramos, Comolli and our scouting team.

ITK also says Hart, but I'd worry about his lack of experience. Carson had a great season for Charlton last year, but has looked progressively dodgier as this season's gone on. McGregor has looked pretty good in the bits I've seen (I really should take advantage of Setanta to watch more SPL, but life is too short). Is he any better than Gordon?
