wtf is that excuse of a tv screen on the outside of the West Stand. Was that in the original plans or did Levy get a good deal on a flat screen off the back of a lorry

If it's not finished and will look a lot better then I take back my negativity but as it looks now it spoils the stadium exterior

Also why locate a big screen in an area where not many people can see it ie right next to the high rd where the road is so close to the stadium and the pedestrian access is very limited. Surely it would be much better located facing one of the pedestrian squares

I don't get it, maybe I'm missing something?

The veil will go over it, when it's on it will almost look like a projector.

It would be pointless to put a veil over a screen.

Passing traffic happens 24hrs per day on that road....so theirs a high level of exposure. Also because it was probably easier to put there than on the south stand.

No it doesn’t, just goes around it and slightly over the edges I think

I think you're right, I can't find the images now but I do remember seeing some where it looked almost like a projector image.

This one makes it seems partially covered, almost like the edges are faded.

We were supposed to be developing love lane.

I believe that the stadium is designed to fit into the overall redevelopment of the local area. If the Love Lane estate does get re-done then that whole area will be a boulevard approaching directly towards that big screen and the logo.

Let's give them a chance to finish the stadium exterior, interior and immediate landscaping before we criticise how things might look. I imagine that the designs have taken all sorts of long-term views into consideration.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something go over it, that's more transparent than the veil but keeps the flow of the veil.
Bit like the Wembley ones.

Huh pretty sure the veil doesn’t go over it.

This conversation is pretty funny...

Let's get it straight!

Firstly, where else could the screen go? every other road around the stadium is a minor road, North has Lilywhite house blocking it, South will have tall buildings and the East Stand faces a school. It's literally the only place you can have one and the curve of the stadium means it'll be seen pretty well by those approaching from the south.

The screen in the renders isn't the exact same as what is happening. The renders show a screen further to the left/North and slightly wider, this means we can't fully rely on any renders. We can draw the following conclusions though...

1. There has never been a render which shows a black space with a screen that is off.
2. The renders show the screen faded on either side, suggesting there will be an effort to have it integrated into the stadium design.
3. There have been renders which show the west elevation with no screen and only cladding, suggesting that is how the stadium will look when the screen is inactive.
4. The cladding (as has been well exposed by the way the stadium looks at night) has a lot of holes in it! It's perforated! It will be possible to have cladding with high levels of perforation over the screen such that when it is on, it will shine through.

I can't promise what the end product will look like as practical application and architectural concepts do not always marry up, but I think it likely that the screen will indeed be covered by cladding of some form making it invisible any time it is off.

To be honest, I've said before that I think the outside of the stadium isn't great and how it's coming together just reinforces that. It's like someone has been let loose and just gone overkill on it.

We've got glass, concrete and it's cladding, metal veil, even a bit of tiling work, smooth rounded edges, sharp angular shapes, a brutalist like feature makes an appearance, an array of different colours....... Aesthetically for me there is too much going on and it's not something I look at and think wow.

That is just the opinion of one humble punter though. I'm sure most wont care, will be happy enough, and the main thing that determines the stadium will be a) the environment and atmosphere inside and b) the facilities offered, but yeah...... I'd have done some things differently ;):D

i agree that the outside is not a beautiful piece of design work. But it does look somewhat fortress-like and foreboding in the flesh, so to speak, which is the most important part. Visiting teams arriving on their bus will be intimidated, and that's all I really care about for the outside.

Inside it looks the nuts.

Yeah I'm not overly sold on the West side as yet. Every other side looks great, insides look great and pitchside looks great. The shape on the West side is a bit too abstract for me but it does look better in the concept so hopefully once finished it will look good.

I think the outside looks stunning. Each side of the stadium is unique. I guess it's different tastes etc. Some people like abstract, others like paintings of a horse. To be honest, I don't think the exterior is especially abstract at all. Just different from all the other generic bowl stadiums we see out there.

As said the west side is open to interpretation being so unusual. I do think the veil may have looked better being a total wrap round and not having the “office” like glass exposed at the top. I think the glass entrance is enough. But all in all it’s bloody fantastic and just wanna get in my seat.
