Well that felt somewhat lopsided, surely the club should have slapped some warpaint on Donna Cullen, trotted her out and put our side of the story across far more vigorously

A Tottenham Hotspur fan today told of his heartache at being the last barrier to his club’s planned £100 million new stadium.

Josif Josif, 46, runs Archway Sheet Metal Works next to White Hart Lane on the final piece of land needed to expand the stadium.

Spurs have been trying to buy the 25,000 sq ft site in Paxton Road for more than 10 years.

Mr Josif, who owns the firm with his four brothers and sister, began going to games when he was 12.

Their firm has appealed against a public inquiry’s finding in April last year that Haringey council should issue a compulsory purchase order on behalf of the club. The decision now lies with the Department for Communities and Local Government, which was due to rule in October.

More Tottenham stories

Mr Josif is demanding a better deal involving a land-swap so that the business, which supplies kitchen equipment, can continue to grow.

He said: “It’s really difficult. I’ve always been a Tottenham fan and so are two of my brothers. We used to have a box there and I remember going to watch in the days Osvaldo Ardiles was a player.”

Plans: Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy said the new stadium was key to regenerating the areaAsked about the attempt to force his firm to relocate, he said: “The club has been going for a long time and it doesn’t change my love for the club. But the ownership is different and so you find yourself having to distinguish between the two.”

His legal team are threatening to take the DCLG to the High Court and even the Supreme Court if it rules in Tottenham’s favour.

Club chairman Daniel Levy said the new stadium was key to regenerating the area.

A DCLG spokesman said: “We have not made a decision yet.”

So, assuming that's all true, he's not a Gooner after all

Someone needs to do a Weston-super-Mare pier job and burn the place to the ground.

My guess would be that the club are unwilling to make any kind of public comment on the CPO dispute while it is still in the hands of lawyers and ministers of state.

Factory's plans clash with Spurs redevelopment
50 minutes ago

A family who own a sheet metal factory next to Tottenham Hotspur FC are refusing to relocate, meaning a scheme to improve White Hart Lane could be jeopardised.

The plans, which involve redeveloping the area around the club, have clashed with the manufacturing firm's own plans to expand, and many millions of pounds of development funds are now at stake.

BBC London reporter Warren Nettleford spoke to Peter Josif, director of Archway Sheet Metals, and solicitor Paul Winter.

I wouldn't have said anything if the club didn't issue a statement but they did. It would have been better to have have someone from the club being put up to read it and work the lines, stadium led development, stronger Spurs makes a stronger Tottenham etc. It's not even what you say, it's how you say it.
Archway were able to get away with portraying Spurs as a heartless corporate monster looking to destroy jobs in the area and because we just issued a statement we couldn't react to that.

It's another abysmal PR performance by Spurs, it's an area that the club can't afford to skimp on at the moment.

The thing about this guy standing in the way of it all, perhaps if it was literally just the stadium that was being slung up then fair enough, but this is a deal to regenerate a substantial part of, arguably, London's most ignored borough. I obviously don't know the details of the offers we made, or the CPO, but he would surely be better off relocating to an industrial estate somewhere if he does intend to expand his business - How and where exactly was he intending to expand anyway? Can't think of much space around there suitable to make that building any bigger.

I dunno, regardless of his protests, if he's been offered a substantial amount above the value of his company plus a new location tba, then he's just being stubborn and depriving the entire area of much needed refurbishment.

I don't think anyone really believes the club is a heartless corporate monster looking to destroy jobs in the area though so it didn't work, everybody knows he is just trying to screw as much money out of the situation as he can and is playing at brinkmanship to do it.

I don't blame him. Does anyone know how much of Pickles and his teams time it would take to consider this CPO?

Archway Steel's owner interviewed here (on video) regarding the CPO:-

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-27040976
Thanks for this.

Summed up perfectly by their own Solicitor 'The role of a CPO .......... is to support the public interest'

Archway Sheet Metal expansion plans (they employ 20) might amount to 2-3 new jobs versus the regeneration of North Tottenham. The new Sainsbury's created how many jobs? plus those that will work at the new technical college and THFC.

Where do Archway Sheet Metal think they would expand into? Have they got their sights on easing out 'the burger man' !

It's all good, this is just free marketing for them.

I think you've genuinely hit the nail on the head there. The FREE publicity & advertising they're now getting could, in the long run, make them significantly more money than they are currently turning over. I'd also imagine, not that I know anything about such things, that this currently FREE advertising and publicity, would cost them hundreds of thousands of pounds, if they were to seek it through the usual means, ie adverts whilst the news is on at the prime time of 6.30pm.

I'm inclined to think that they (or their solicitor) are more than aware that they've not really got much of a leg to stand on, so drumming up as much publicity/advertising as possible, is the smartest thing they can do before ultimately being told to vacate their current premises.

I know this is a bit random but does anyone know much about the Olympic stadium deal for the hammers.
I think they pay a rent of 2 million a year but do they split the gate receipts with the owners of the stadium cos if not with them filling that up they could be a serious threat in the future with only paying such a small amount.

Don't worry, the olympic stadium will destroy them. They do get all the gate receipts but they have to split all income from catering( and hospitality I think) they're never going to sell it out, they're still in deep debt and they're bound to get relegated again soon.
They've also sold their biggest asset, they have nothing to borrow against if current obligations can't be met and with probably end up making similar amounts of matchday revenue to that of the current Upton Caravan Park.

Archway steel are on bbc London at 6.30pm tonight.

I can't watch it but will tomorrow so can give a summary then.

Re the CPO decision. A poster on COYS has contacted Pickles department and they've emailed him back saying a decision isn't imminent.

Bastard hasn't replied to me yet. Was that address genuine?

Thanks I know it's random but was in conversation with a West Ham bod today and was going on about how it will make them challenging in a few years.
I didn't know what the returns on the stadium were for them cheers again.
