I've just checked the reported cost of Crossrail 2 and it's estimated to be £33bn.

I want my (our) club to flourish, and perhaps this is the wrong thread, but is this some kind of sick bloody joke? The cost has gone up £6 BILLION since the last figures were produced less than 6 months ago!

If Londoners are to pay £16.5Bn towards the cost, as reported, then that leaves the rest of the country to pay the other £16.5 billion. Or well over £300 for every man, woman, child, baby, and OAP in the rest of the country for something hardly any of them will ever use.

And if the UK built a TGV line at the same cost that France does, for the cost of Crossrail2 we would see the UK building a High Speed railway 726 miles long (The Channel Tunnel to the North of Scotland PLUS another from The Channel Tunnel to Bristol).

But instead we're getting a line from one side of the capital to another side of the capital, where there's already a new, very expensive line from one side of the capital to another side of the capital. Utter madness.

As you were, rant over.

The population of london is set to increase by at least 20% by the time cross rail 2 opens. It might be very expensive but it will definately be needed.
London is also the financial powerhouse of britain. Saying the rest of the country will be helping to pay for it without seeing any benefit is simply bollocks.

HS3 also got the green light.

So why isn't London a city state then, as it has every tax-raising powers to match its equal standing with the four nations of the UK? It is beyond me - London (with just under sixth of the British population) has sucked the life out of everything around it and is one of the biggest devolution policy failures of our time and shows up the awful imbalance on the economy under Cameron and Osborne

I notice there's no 'Elizabeth' tube line from Salford to Rochdale, from Bolton to Wigan, or Exeter to Plymouth. There may be the odd train or two, but not a royal railway blessed by the monarch, like London's new Crossrail last week, all £14.8bn of it.

But keep feeding the monster, eh?

You are 100% correct. This is the wrong thread for this!

Just corrected your spelling

By the way London has been the lifeblood of the UK economy for donkey's years

The residents of these northern towns need to understand who pays for their dole and housing benefit
That is the kind of typical londoncentric, snobbish and ignorant statement you get from so many who think that London is the centre of the universe and that Londoner's are god's gift to Britain.

I was born and bred in north east London, but I was brave enough to venture elsewhere in Britain - you should try it: there are fantastic places and wonderful people, many of which and whom suffer due to the Insular and neglectful centralised Westminster government.

Really? You went to live there? I'm all for visiting the third world for a holiday but why would you go and live there!?

And yes I know some northerners have jobs; there are coal mines and Sports Direct have a few outlets up there I'm told.

Tongue, cheek I hope. I did live in the north for 4 years of university. I now live in the south west. I've loved living in both.

A quick point, there aren't really any coal mines anymore - the Tories made sure of that. It's not London's fault that the rest of Britain is neglected. However, the conservatives and, to an extent, new labour have overseen the demise of any and every source of pride and sense of self worth that many parts of Britain once had. The gentlemen's Etonian alliance have sought to suffocate people's ability to contribute meaningfully to the country as a whole and have destroyed the self-esteem and hope of much of Wales, parts of Scotland and most of the north of England. It is a travesty and a depressing truth that lots of people face daily.

Tongue in cheek? What from a bloke with Benny Hill as his avatar?

I used to live in Northumberland; I love the place and I go back to see my friends once or twice a year.

But back to the new stadium...

Police are reporting a hi-jacked thread seen heading North on he M1.
Slogans have been seen painted on Motorway bridges reading
'Give us our thread back'.
Dissident Northern spurs fans have clashed with arrogant Londoners
in ugly scenes on the site of the new Stadium
and are thought to be responsible.

LOL. It's so funny how, no matter what the subject, you can guaranty that halfway through, people will be at each others throats, fighting about which part of Britain or which country is the best. (and not just SC, but on pretty much every internet forum that exists!)
