we should all expect to see the retention of this track firmly embedded and legally guaranteed by those entrusted with this legacy commitment, today and in the future.

Love this bit.

Yeah! Make it impossible for them rip up the track anytime between now and the extinction of the human race.

How's that bed for lying in Mr. Sullivan?

i have a feeling the government & boris will look at the bids & veto the OPLC`s decision & put it through another imparsial board...

Mayor Boris, in the Guardian this morning: "This is a very significant step forward towards delivering the Olympic Park legacy and the Legacy Company has run a thoroughly professional and robust process. This milestone means we now have the prospect of a local football club and a multi-use venue capable of hosting athletics, a range of other sports and a vibrant programme of events for the local community and schools.

"I am thrilled that the Legacy Company board has arrived at a recommendation for me and my colleagues in government to consider. I am confident that we will be able to respond quickly to the advice of the Legacy Company in making our decision."

That doesn't sound like a man who is going to veto anything.

From the Beeb.

Tottenham MP David Lammy told BBC Sport: "Spurs leaving would be devastating for the local community.

"It's hard to put into words how important Spurs is."

Haringey Council also praised the decision. It stressed that Spurs have planning permission for a new stadium at the White Hart Lane site and said building could "start almost immediately".

Planning permission could start "almost immediately" (as long as we can find £500m or so knocking about).

Get checking behind the back of your sofa's lads.

Bloody Nora. A few months back, nobody had a sniff we were going to go in for the OS. Now all of a sudden the club has been dealt a death blow from which is looks unlikely to ever recover from. Settle down. I have wanted to stay in the Tottenham/N. London area but wouldn't have slit my wrists over us winning the OS.

Levy et al will come out with something soon enough and we'll get our stadium, wherever it may eventually be.

Quite right about the OTT reaction.

His personal website has a "Save Our Spurs" link too. How funny that he can't actually bring himself to address the point of public funding available to Wembley & the Woolwich to build a new stadium, and the fact that a local council has borrowed £40m to help West Ham sort out their new setup, and all the while Spurs getting absolutely squat from any official body. All he's able to do is link to a petition and whine about the fact we looked at alternative sites.

The guy's a glory hunter, he just wants the local residents (those who haven't already figured him out) to think he's working in their best interests, yet won't lift a single finger to help get the stadium paperwork through and building started. His lack of activity is as effective as if he'd decided to rally against us.

In his defense, didn't he try to get public funding. He mentioned it to David Cameron in Parliament, but Cameron said he's not getting involved in football matters after England's failed World Cup bid.

Well said mate. I have a feeling there may be some suicide attempts tonight because their plans of an easier route to the match have been quashed!!

Seems like it. I just get there nice and early on public transport, have a quick bite, into the pub for a couple of drinks with acquaintances and then the match.

I don't bother driving, no real need anyway as I come in from C. London (ish). Driving anywhere at any time and spending ages trying to find any sort of parking spot that isn't effing well suspended is the daily routine for me the rest of the week. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

They didn't get a penny of public funding (I don't know where that one came from), and Islington were after a huge shedload of S106 demands (including a £60m incinerator!) compared to the ones Haringey wanted from Spurs. I'd go ballistic if Haringey Council borrowed £40m to lend to Spurs; do people not realise the scale of the cuts we're facing?

Levy's never asked for public funding anyway.

Most local residents I know seem to think Lammy's an OK local MP, even if he's suffered a charisma bypass and is a dead ringer for Halifax Howard; that probably explains why he gets 60%+ of the vote. He might have engaged his brain before sounding off, but I can understand why he's pissed off with Levy.

Don't really have a problem with Lammy, his responsibility is to his constituency not to us and so he doesn't have to care about our future success or failure only that we either succeed or fail in his area, we are nothing to him.

Oh I see what you mean. You may well have a point there, but I fear that you have too much faith in FIFA/UEFA.

When you look at the clubs that will be banned from playing in Champions League it actually sets up all of the clubs that want to set up a "superleague" pretty well. There may well be a separate tournament for clubs that are unrestricted by UEFA (including Real, Man U, Chelsea, City, Inter, etc) -

And if the regulation isn't enforced we could never compete with city or chelsea on wages no matter how big our stadium so it makes little difference

Building could start "almost immediately"???

Thought there were land issues (ie we don't own all of it!)

Plus a minor issue about cash, I guess! £400m to find at least?

Nothing to do with the fact that Lammy's constituancy has been a Labour stronghold for god knows how long then :)

Quote from Levy on the official site late last year:

DanielLevy said:
We have spent a substantial amount acquiring land for the site assembly and we still do not own all of the land required to proceed with the development, making a Compulsory Purchase Order process likely.

The application also includes S106 and S278 costs in the region of £17m, relating to requests for contributions from Council departments and Transport for London as part of the planning consent.

Meanwhile this development has not attracted a penny of public money.

This is a development with the potential to kickstart regeneration in one of the most deprived boroughs in London, where land values are poor and yet no regeneration monies are available to it. This is in contrast to the stadia developments of Arsenal and Wembley which were both awarded public sector assistance. These developments required substantial public sector intervention and assistance and would not have progressed without the injection of public sector money.

The Club fully appreciates the sentiments expressed recently by David Lammy MP in respect of our position in Tottenham - we too recognise the historic, economic and emotional aspects of this. We would therefore hope that, rather than seek to criticise the Club at this undetermined stage and make inaccurate and unfounded assumptions about our financial intentions with the Club, he would now be seeking to do everything in his power to attract public sector support for the Borough.

Whatever the outcome on our stadium expansion plans we are committed to the regeneration of Tottenham, but it is wrong to suggest that we should bear this burden alone.

I assume this is where people get the idea that Arsenal got public funding from.

Levy does not say what form that public sector assistance takes or to what extent/amount, though he does say they wouldn't have gotten off the ground without public funding.

He also pretty openly requests public money I'd say in this statement, whilst admittedly not saying it by name.
