Quote from Levy on the official site late last year:

I assume this is where people get the idea that Arsenal got public funding from.

Levy does not say what form that public sector assistance takes or to what extent/amount, though he does say they wouldn't have gotten off the ground without public funding.

He also pretty openly requests public money I'd say in this statement, whilst admittedly not saying it by name.

I thought the council gave Arsenal the land that the Emirates is built on, I might be wrong, it's just my recollection.

Building could start "almost immediately"???

Thought there were land issues (ie we don't own all of it!)

Plus a minor issue about cash, I guess! £400m to find at least?

I believe we can start building the supermarket straight away as we own all the land for that part of the project. The stadium is only £250m of the £450m total, we've already spent £70m, so only £380m left to find.

Wouldn't whoever was building the Supermarket (wasn't it Sainsbury's?) be funding the Supermarket part of any proposed development? Didn't think we'd have any control over that, apart from use of the carpark on matchday?

So, the quoted sum of £250m for the stadium, is that to actually build the thing? Or does that include the stuff that we've already spent £70m on?

The £250m is the construction costs of the stadium. The other £200m is acquiring the land, hotel, flats, supermarket (as far as I know we are building it and then leasing it to a tenant, probably Sainsbury's), professional fees, s106 and possibly the odd brown envelope here and there.

We wouldn't have use of the supermarket car park on match days, it was one of the things I asked Paul Phillips about during the planning process.

I see. Thanks for the info.

So, have we in effect paid £70m towards the £200m needed? Or is that an additional £200m on top of the £70m we've already forked out?

This is a Q and A by lammy about NDP http://www.davidlammy.co.uk/sitedata/PDFS/Rebuttal-1.pdf

The criticism of Lammy imo without us alot of people would be fucked including people i know who work on matchdays to help pay their way through uni

The £70m already paid is part of the total, so we need to find £380m to complete the whole project. But being realistic we would have to have contingency funding in place of probably another £50m for any problems along the way.

Cool. Only another £380m, that's nothing, is it?!

Surely all along Levy had some sort of plan for getting it financed? Or could the global economic meltdown be fucking us over?

He saw a cheaper option, that hasn't worked out I'm certain the NDP will be back on the agenda. Where there's a will there's a way.

I hope so.

A point often missed re: the NDP project is that we'll make money back from all aspects of the project, not just the stadium on match days, etc.

Surely we'd make £200m of that back from the likes of Sainsbury's leasing from us?

And this is where I, personally, start to take issue with what Dan Levy is saying. I could be wrong, but I have a very clear memory of him stating as absolute fact that the funding for the NDP was already in place, hedged and completely seperate from running costs for the club/transfer fees. What has happened with that? If it is the case that this finance is still in place but the costs have increased he should state this clearly, show where the increased costs are, and discuss possibilities for meeting them and why he feels they won't work. What he shouldn't do is waffle something about non-viability.

1) He saw a cheaper option, that hasn't worked out 2) I'm certain the NDP will be back on the agenda. Where there's a will there's a way.

1) That's what I think;
2) That's what I hope - one thing is for certain, adn that is if he was using the OS as a stick to get the local authorities to be more amenable, without seriously believing we would get the OS, we may never have the truth of it.

What I find disturbing is the regularity of hiring ex-olympic bid team chiefs on to the board in non-exec positions for sums of money lost in a gamble which some say we were never destined to win.

How many of these people are we / will we still carry in to the next phase of our destiny and to what use will they be put, or have they quietly been relieved of duties to fade away back in to the mire?

Put harnesses on them and sent them out to munch on the grass...save on lawn-mower usage.

What is going on with our new stadium. I thought we would've had some update by now.

Borris hasn't ratified anything so the OPLC hasn't officially released the merits of our bid so we don't have the justification of the OPLC decision yet. Until that's out and Levy et al. have had time to study the paperwork we wont hear anything on a new stadium.
