I haven't given up hope of us getting the OS. History be fucked, if we built what will probably be the finest stadium in the world (for at least a decade) on frankly the best site in the world for a football stadium, we'd have a chance of being THE London club, as big as Real or ManUSA. That will never happen at the Lane.

Me too. And frankly, unless there's some under-the-table whitewash then I can't see how the result of the JR would not be to re-open the bidding.

Also - since we now know (but didn't before) that the retention of the running track is the OVERWHELMING priority, if I were Levy I would also be looking at changing the plans and seeing if we can't have those movable stands for the 20 days required for athletics (mostly summer) per season (and if we also still renovate Crystal Palace to make it 365 days-a-year facility we'd be laughing)

A note on the Orient angle which I'm sure has probably been made somewhere in the previous 325 pages of this thread.....they aren't bidding for the OS and they don't expect to get it if they now did. Their point is that having a club there who can't fill the stadium (WHU) will kill them because WHU will inevitably offer cut-price tickets to fill it. The 'occasional' Orient fans, those who go for a cheap a season ticket and of course kids may well fancy a game in the OS, a division above just around the corner for similar money. They worry less about us because they know that we'll probably sell out more like 75% of games and will still be charging 40+ quid for cat C games at the turnstiles

Barry Hearn on TS.........he doesn't think Spurs will go for OS & he would not want them to. He is sure we are looking at NPD & other sites. Interesting.....maybe our chat with Boris is not just about funding, maybe easements on planning for alternate site?

You don't think we looked at other sites already? We've been through this ad infinitum. It's either NPD or years more twatting about.

Soooo, where are all those people who rubbish those of us that pointed out a while ago that the JR was (1) at the persmission stage and the court was to only consider whether or not there was an arguable case; and (2) that we were not in possession of the pleadings so we were not in a position to declare the case "dead" like some were.

They no here?

No?

Wonder why?

The fact that those in a position to care have started pushing this 2017 bid so early just shows me how desperate they are to prove that this stadium has a use after 2012. Honestly, how do they expect to convince the country that we need to keep this stadium for athletics when, even if it manages to win the rights to host every major athletics event between now and the end of time, it will still only be a maximum of three events per year, only one of which will attract anything like the numbers proposed, with or without it being reduced in numbers to accomodate West Ham.

It's an utter joke - the facts are there, yet the UK Athletics bunch are ignoring it in a way that would make Arsene Wenger proud, and all the while, Crystal Palace continues to rot in it's foundations. Wasn't long ago that this centre of excellence was the home of UK athletics, and they were oh so proud of it, begging for money to invest from the Lottery, amongst others - we offer that money, but noooo, they've seen that greener grass, they don't care about common sense, or history, or legacies - they just want it to appear to Daily Mail readers that they have preserved this non-existant legacy, for England, for the people, yada yada yada.

Such a crock of arse.

Spot on, couldn't have put it better myself:clap:
I do like today's decision very much, how many people are squirming in their seats tonight I wonder:)

Olympic Stadium - Update

24 August 2011

Tottenham Hotspur plc has today been granted permission to bring judicial review proceedings in respect of both the decision to appoint West Ham Football Club and the London Borough of Newham as the preferred bidder for the Olympic Stadium and the decision of the London Borough of Newham to support their bid with a commitment to loan up to £40m. A full hearing is now scheduled to take place in October.

The Club continues to hold discussions and negotiations with both local and national government bodies in order to determine an optimum and feasible stadium solution.

It's the only way they know how to play.

Funnily, WHam are at a disadvantage once the political conflict transcends into a judicial process. Linguistic diarrhea such as "promise in the queen's name" doesn't offer quite the same clout this time around.

Quite agree

Though we will ultimately have to go through the bidding process with the ridiculous committee again. This time they won't just be biased, they'll HATE Spurs. Which is why I say we should look at some way of keeping the track with movable stands (like the Stade de France for example). Then we'll have a bid that wins on all factors

Does nobody else see the irony in us doing a deal to get state aid by dropping our legal appeal against the state aid being offered to West Ham?

You're quite right I'm sure, you could build a very successful football club on the Olympic site, it might turn into one of the biggest clubs in the world, but it wouldn't be Tottenham.

What is going on! Was all that excitement yesterday just over £8m?

That and DL trying to prove he's got the biggest balls, I can tell you now that this whole OS debacle has cost this club a hell of a lot more than £8.5m. If that's all he walks away with at the end of this then any shred of credibility he might have had left will have just disappeared.

How much has it cost us?

Doesn't part of our argument claim that the £40m loan to West Ham (that they could not otherwise have obtained) is anti-competitive? So we are arguing that either West Ham should not be given state aid or that similar deals should be available to all clubs (us and Orient in this case).

Regarding the P.I. stuff - I really don't think that we would have been silly enough to do anything that may have been illegal. That would surely be highly counter-productive.

Of course this isn't just over 8m FFS. You're just annoyed because you spent so long saying this appeal was a waste of time when it's actually starting to look like a very shrewd move by Levy.

If it helps I really don't think Levy is thinking about us playing in the OS anymore. If the process had to start again then they'd probably make it clear they want a running track at which point we wouldn't be interested.

This is all about leverage and Levy is doing this to help get the stadium that you really want. I don't really see why you're against it all.
