we are building a footy stadium and, for all intents and purposes, it will look like a footy stadium much like most other 'new build' footy stadia do. What will set this apart though, and where we can express our individuality is what we do 'around' the stadium and inside the ground.

We stick up a few statues of Billy Nich, Blanchflower and others, we have inspiring quotes and slogans embedded in the concrete for all to see. We have nice flashy gates and entrances and most of all we fill the damn thing with fans that will make the kind of noise that sends fear into opposing sides and it is this above all else that will make our new stadium 'great' and ensures that the phrase 'blue emirates' is consigned to the distant memory.

They can build it however they want
It is up to US to make it what it can be!!

...If you want the best architect Zaha Hadid is the one you want, her works are stunning and lives up to her reputation, my favourite building by her is the Maxxi Art and Architecture Museum in Rome.

Hoo boy, if you want a prime example of an architect whose flashy ideas create problems that the rest of the design team then has to solve (see my post above), there's your no. 1 candidate.

Zaha was a graduate student at the Architectural Association when I was an undergraduate there, so I knew her, vaguely, about 40 years ago. She is one tough character, as I suppose one would have to be to get where she has got as a woman in architecture, but she is well-known to be sheer hell to work with in a team and her designs chronically cost staggering amounts of money, because their appeal is all about creating outrageous sculpture, not about solving complex, programme-led and multi-use buildings that people can use on a practical, day-to-day basis.

I also find her work utterly inappropriate for urban locations, because it requires exactly the kind of open, exposed, 'look-at-me-I'm-a-sculpture' site that is the opposite of the intensively-developed NDP site. Basically, her schemes are macho architecture that tell everything around them to fuck off. Not the right kind of architect for a complex, multi-use regeneration project, no way.

And just imagine being a fly on the wall for round 1 of Hadid v. Levy when the scheme budget first starts to go AWOL...

Had you made this very post exactly 5 years ago, you would have been ridiculed and spammed off the forum. However, my opinion, and I`ve been consistent with it since 2010, is that we will still be playing in a 36k WHL in the year 2020 and beyond. Certainly if ENIC are still involved with the club anyway.

Archway Press Compulsory Purchase Order
Responsible department: Department for Communities and Local Government

I am petitioning for the regeneration of the area surrounding the Tottenham Hotspur White Hart Lane stadium. One landowner is appealing the rightful Compulsory Purchase Order issued by the Secretary of State (itself taking far too long) and this is delaying the regeneration of the entire area. Such regeneration would create many jobs basically bringing a derelict area into the 21st century and vastly increase local revenue. This ridiculous appeal by a greedy landowner needs throwing out as soon as possible allowing this much needed work to begin. The football club should be applauded for investing so heavily in the area.

Lillywhite House eh?

Looking at what's been done it looks like demolished material is being crushed from/into those separate piles. Doesn't really look much more than that to me.

Nice one Berranet. I've signed for what it's worth, even if Others saying just let the justice system take its natural course are probably right.

This is the project I visited a couple of times in Seoul, which uses the site of a former baseball stadium. The builders said this was the toughest design they'd worked on.

Hope Populous alters the design a bit and I think they should be able to. I mean, look at what they did in Dublin with Aviva Stadium! A 51,700 seater in an area smaller than the old 25,000 seater. And that design is beautiful, IMO.

Not saying I want something like that, but I would like to see the design altered a bit. Maybe add some more seats making it a 60,000 seater and change the exterior a bit keeping the bowl shape. I'm also fond of Lyon's new stadium that Populous designed:http://populous.com/project/grand-stade-de-lolympique-lyonnais/

Also, have a look at what Populous designed with the owners only having a $60m budget for a stadium for Houston's MLS team: http://populous.com/project/bbva-compass-stadium/

I'd be very happy if they can manage to make the kop/shelf a natural extension of the interior, instead of giving the impression of being a last-minute afterthought. And if they insist, I shall have to endorse significant revisions of the exterior as well :smug:

You never know there may be changes. Doubt they'll be announced before the CPO is decided. We don't need anything confusing things further.

I've stated it before, but Populous did a really good job with the Minnesota Twin's new stadium.

http://populous.com/project/target-field/

One of the issues is the location, it is literally right next to 2 highways, a train line and a light rail station and they managed to fit an 40,000 seater stadium in the tight space. They built it on top of a lot of that stuff, and if you look in this picture the main plaza to get into the stadium goes right over a highway. The back end of the stadium goes over the train line and the light rail line is right up on the north side.

And yet when you are there it still feels like a really big space, you don't notice any of the highways, or the train line. The Light Rail you do, but thats because its level with the stadium. They did a really nice job.

Don't have a clue as to what is happening with this stadium :(

Can the club at least just say what has changed with the design and what the capacity will be?

Doubt they will say anything until after the Court case unless we make a deal. Especially about any changes to the design. Archway's lawyers will jump on it and say that it's not even the original design so the CPO should be scrapped.

Yeah, think you're right. Little upside in making anything official before the CPO legal wrangle is out of the way.

What Lilbaz says is true but it's still unbearable, the Archway business really is one of those things that could be over tomorrow but could also drag on for years.
