Just had an email from the club asking about food and drink within the new stadium. Asking stuff about what and when I would eat and drink and what type. Quite interesting little reveal about what restaurants and food and drink provision they are thinking about within the new stadium. Very promising.

Also they've asked whether I'd like vendors selling food/drink to me in my seat (like the old Peanut Man I suspect!) and if I'd like the ability to order by drink on your phone during the first half to be picked up at half time or after the game.

They also asked what restaurants you'd visit if they were available in the stadium. Quite a good list including carluccios, pret, gaucho, pizza express alongside the usual fast food outlets like maccy ds. So looks like we might be getting some actual restaurants as well.

Also they've asked about whether you'd like vouchers for money off for staying later after the game or arriving early.
Just done that too.

Whatever they put in there better be an improvement on the filth they were serving up at Wembley during the NFL. Hot Dog with pulled pork and macaroni cheese for £8! Vile

No plan for a cineplex in the scheme? Not sure how much money they make. Could be popular not only on matchdays to stagger crowds, including showing spurs classics, but also in the local community? Not that much competition in the area..? Just wondering aloud.

A little ironic to read the nfl anti obesity campaign above only to then see mention of the evil fast food brands as likely contributors to the matchday experience. Perhaps an hour climbing the wall or chasing after visiting fans will burn off the calories.

Now there's an idea

Instead of sitting through another 0-0 bore draw versus West Brom or Palace we can go in and watch re runs of beating the Arse and Chelscum!

I mainly concentrated on trying to persuade them not to pack the food court with chain outlets and registering my interest in having some reasonably healthy stuff to eat.

Let them get some interesting local businesses to set up some one-off "real food" places with proper fresh ingredients. Food that you can't get anywhere else.

The problem is that crap like Costa Coffee and McDonalds outbid everyone else by a huge margin. If they serve KFC and Pizza Hut, I'll just fuck off home after the match.

Completely agree with this! Support the local businesses, get some decent and interesting food in, get on-board with local breweries to serve proper beer as well. Get some Beavertown. in! This stadium should be world class in every aspect.

Each stand should be fronted by giant see-through LED video screens as used by U2.
It is crazy that someone streaming from home often has a better view of the action than someone actually there.

Seriously, with the average age of fans ever creeping up, soon they will no longer have the eye sight or patience to follow the ant sized action in front of them. The action needs to be enlarged/enhanced especially for the likely high seat prices, and jumbo screens are just not jumbo enough. U2 are quite innovative and I think their current use of gigantic (96ft wide x 22.5ft) screens/multimedia in their live show is very interesting. (Their fans are getting old too.)
And sure, they could show interviews/analysis/films after the game.

I'm glad the club is putting some thought into pre-post match attractions, amazed me when I went into the new Wembley that it was not setup to take visitors early and keep them late, instead just felt bland.

I think football has really missed a trick with this - the match should not be only thing supporters should come for, there should be other amenities in and around the stadium for them to enjoy.

Having a local presence in the stadium is also an excellent idea, would be quite a difference to the usual generic/crap food outlets

Yep, even just having a place to sit outside the stand would keep me at the ground longer. Whether that be a cafe or a pub. It would be great if the stadium would become a place to get some great local beers etc. I just can't see it happening though without pressure from us fans though.

I just hope they include some staff training. The local YTS that are employed inside at the moment must be the slowest servers on the planet - at least in the North Lower!

Some basic maths test would save everyone 5 mins getting change, they use calculators and still get it wrong

You get change!? You must be paying with fifty pound notes at the prices they charge.
It'd be good to have a local presence, like jerk n ting down Park Lane, but I suspect the club will be charging big rents for stadium food outlets.

If they just went for a share in the profits they'd have a chance. The club could then phase out the less popular options and replace them with new.

Well, this is where the survey comes in and is why I wrote my post above. If a lot of people demand local one-off vendors instead of (or as well as) chains, then they are more likely to opt for a balance between rent-generating high street regulars and unusual originals. I was hoping to persuade more people to register those views.

But you'll get the problem that the high-rent chain outlets will demand the prominent locations in exchange for their premium rents. Then they will undercut the start-ups to drive them out of business. So really the only solution that will provide quality is to keep the big chains out and make an effort to recruit originals.

Even if the club adopts a policy of giving an extended rent-free period to all locally-based new businesses, so they can get established, that might be enough to make it work. It depends on how the marketing people visualise this space and also on what we demand. If everyone who does the survey wants fried chicken and reheated pies, I guess I'll be out of luck.

Myself depending on how many outlets there will be needs to be a mixture of choices.

They need to be able to cater a few different choices and make it affordable, if it's affordable then the likelihood is that more people will use them before or after a match

Inevitably they will select whichever outlets deliver the highest returns. The one off originals will have no place in Mr Levy s new world I am sorry to say.
