Nope, we wouldn’t do it unless we had the research to justify it.http://m.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/...ing-retractable-pitch-for-new-stadium-070917/
I was gonna start a new thread (there doesn't seem to be one dedicated to the pitch), but I thought I'd run with it here instead.
I'm concerned (first world problems) that our grass pitch in the trays isn't going to be up to scratch in comparison to WHL in regard to drainage, patchiness and bounce of the ball.
I'm not a professional grounds man, just a fan wondering how the hell this is going to work.
Anyone else share this opinion?
You beat me to itThey are Lego pieces to finish the stadium off, we have run out of money, its all in Levy's wage packet.
It's been thoroughly tested at the training ground, it'll be fine.http://m.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/...ing-retractable-pitch-for-new-stadium-070917/

It would actually create an advantage long-term - as we will be used to playing on the surface, while everyone else won't be as prepared. But, I doubt there will be a significant difference in the pitch.I just hope it feels good to play on, if it doesn’t feel quite 'normal' it would be a fucker for our players.

So what you saying?Oh I know. We'll just invest several million quid in this totally untested system for growing our pitch on trays and we won't do any research beforehand. It doesn't matter that our grounds staff have won multiple awards for the pitch at OWHL. This time, we'll just take a flyer on a dangerous system that will injure our players and utterly ruin our performances at our otherwise-painstakingly-designed new home.
And a few fans will all have "my opinion", based on absolute fuck-all, and "my opinion" will of course be right and our several years of expert advice and research will be meaningless.
I have contended many times that people on SC habitually misuse the word "arrogant". A fan who reckons he knows more about the new pitch that the whole design team - that's arrogant. Not someone who thinks fools are fucking fools and says so bluntly.
The old pitch at WHL was made of a combination of 50% plastic mesh with grass growing through it. It was not the most giant carpet you’ve ever seen and must also have been layed in strips.I hope you are right about that, but fear that in practice there might be issues.
One, for example, sliding tackle across wet turf and a player's studs catch in the seem ripping it up.
Cheers Sirharry' I just took another look at the interactive cameras and the gap seems higher now, maybe I'm just seeing it clearer or maybe they have moved the front three rows.
One more question, where do they put them?
That's what I like about you Dougal, you think of everything! What if the middle tray only rolls out half way? The goal is going to be in the middle of the pitch meaning only one team can score goals. Has this been taken into consideration? Or if it rolls out on to a discarded coke bottle causing it to rise and create a step in the pitch? This would give a height advantage to players on the higher tray whilst competing in aerial duels. What happens if someone accidentally flips a switch mid game and the left side of the pitch moves Heung Min Son into an offside position in the linesman’s line of view when techinically he’s still onside? What if the pitch comes out during an NFL game and wipes out a load of cheerleaders. You just know Donald Trump will tweet about that which reflect badly on our global audience.

Yes but some commenters’ groundless belief it might not work cannot be stronger than the club’s belief it will work. The club has too much at stake..I fully expect it to be a huge success but you've gone in a bit strong there. Plenty of examples in history of engineering balls ups and until it is fully installed and tested full scale there can be no 100% guarantees.
