You have to laugh at City and Chelsea crying foul
at the Saudi buy-out of Newcastle.
It's true their owners don't have as much blood on their hands
but the injection of the money drug has just as bad an effect.

Another sad day for football. I'm not blaming Newcastle, they've suffered enough
but in this case the Saudi cure is worse than the Ashley disease

Excellent hard-hitting article here by Barney Ronay looking at the History.

Things like this, if its real which i wouldnt be suprised if it was, will cause uproar at away grounds. I guarantee that the geordies will be wearing things like this on their travels. Already saw the scenes at SJP after the takeover when the fans had tea towels on their heads.
Imagine going to games at Leeds, West Ham or Chelsea dressed and acting like that!

Levy is getting pelters from the Barcodes on Twitter. Something about him leading the charge of the other PL clubs protesting this.

He’s obviously shitting himself that he’ll never see UCL money again.

Money talks, let's be lucky to live in era where some clubs are still legit (not many). 100 years from now all big clubs will be in hands of Saudis, China etc. Maybe biggest clubs like UTD and Liverpool won't since they are such a big brand and will always have money. Even with a salary cap some will simply be willing to pay luxury tax and have advantage. Not sure who I would root for if I started getting into football today, maybe Brentford or Brighton.
won't happen. Chinese corporates are more like levy than abramovich and it is unlikely for the government to allow significant outflow of capital from the country

I fully support him in this.

He is, but the cheek of Newcastle fans trying to claim the moral high ground is astounding. As are the "cry more" and "haha you're just jealous" retorts to genuine questions about genuinely evil human rights abuses.

I can't lie I'm still so shocked at how quick and how effective this whole sportswashing operation has been. I know the casual fan will just go along with it but I expected at least some backlash. I've not seen a single Newcastle fan questioning it, but have seen thousands actively defending the regime as if it was their duty. Even the Newcastle LGBTQ pride union released a shitty statement justifying it by saying they've got a woman in charge so it must be okay.

It's utterly, utterly shocking.

No matter what the reason he did it, I for one am glad he did.

Newcastle fans have come across as incredibly thick, arrogant and pathetic.

The fact that many cant see the difference between a greedy bad owner in ashley and an actual facist murderous state owning your club says it all.

It’s really depressing at how easily these fans have had their heads turned by a brutal, blood soaked dictator. They aren’t stupid, they’re just fans like we are, but all it’s taken is the promise of untold riches and they’ve all bent over backwards for the Saudi regime.

The Newcastle pride statement was frankly disgusting, I’d love to see all the other clubs LGBTQ groups release a statement condemning them and condemning the take over.

The thing is we're a forum and there's clearly a collection of posters in here that consider the implication of things beyond simply our football team doing well and we're comparing that to the vast nature of twitter and the fans who chose to turn up outside the stadium.

I'm wondering if perhaps there's a newcastle forum where there's more consideration for the morality of things?

Yeah the false equivalances are astonishing. You can be happy Ashley has fucked off whilst also being unhappy with the Saudi regime taking his place.

Their logic is basically equivilant to being like "hey, nobody's perfect" as a justification for a comparison between their mate Steve and Hitler. Sure, Steve cheated on his girlfriend when he was 19 so he's not perfect, but Hitler's definitely a lot less fucking perfect.

Thought I’d have a look on a Newcastle United forum. They’ve got a thread asking if people are uncomfortable with the takeover.

Some of its interesting to read, but there’s a hell of a lot of people on there in denial about where this money is coming from and who’s actually in charge of the takeover.

Aside from one or two who are disappointed but feel powerless about it, it’s mostly people justifying the whole thing to themselves by pointing to the likes of City and Chelsea, or the fact the U.K. sells bombs to them, or that people are happy to buy petrol.

Depressing stuff.

The big 19™
Guessing clubs are FEELING it from fans for approving this. Almost like fans are vehemently pro womens rights, pro lgbtq rights, pro racial equality & anti murdering & dismembering dissidents. Who knew?!

By the way, Newcastle fans repping the Saudi flag on rwitter should be rounded up, thrown into a dungeon for 2 years with no way of getting out & be made to watch the horrors their owners commit on a daily basis. Newcastle should be given a 10 point deduction just for this new twitter fad?‍♂️

They should go and try living in Saudi Arabia for a bit, forced to watch any public whippings, stonings or beheadings etc.

I know a City fan.

Sometime ago I posted that article that went into detail about their owners human rights record and people disappearing/being murdered. I posted it in FB and he immediately questioned the authenticity of it and when I told him to look at where the report was from he said "oh well, football is already dead".

This is someone who Is consider to be very level-headed and a decent human being.

It's mental how people are going to lengths to defend this shit.

I want success for Tottenham but not at the expense of selling our integrity and history just for a few bragging rights.

It's pathetic.
