whats with the dodgy ad in the post :-|

COYS

Dealt with.

Pffft, amateurs eh?

I always hate when previews say "both defences have been leaking goals, so we're in for a goalfest" because they always end up 0-0. Which is exactly what I think this will be.

Why even put a goalie on the bench? Its not likely Cerny will get injured.
Go it Warnock style. Put Huddlestone in goal if anything goes wrong!!

Defoe, not Huddlestone. Haven't you seen those Adidas adverts from a year or so ago? Defoe saves a shot from Kaká!

If it were up to me, I wouldn't have minded something like this:

As it is, it'd never happen. Ghaly isn't in the squad either. He frustrated me a lot last year, but I'd love to see him in the middle at least one, that being his actual position and all.

Im really looking forward to this one

IMO this is the type of game in which we will see who is prepared to get stuck in and wants to play for the team

Maybe im wrong but I got a good feeling about tonight!

Our players should want to get stuck in and play everytime they pull on the shirt.

If im honest i've got a pretty bad feeling tonight, but that likely because im entirely unsure where our next 3 points are coming from.

Martin has had a good 2 weeks with most of our squad and i really expect to see concentration, focus and desire tonight.

For Newcastle, Mark Viduka has passed a fitness test, and will start up front for Newcastle in a 3 pronged attack, with James Milner and Martins either side.

Tottenham are forced into a change of keeper, with number 1 Paul Robinson out, so Radek Cerny deputises. It’s Keane and Berbatov up front for Spurs.

The Match

2.43
Good interception from Dawson, and Spurs break down the left with Bale. The Welshman’s low cross is deflected out for the first corner of the game.

4.29
That’s the first shot on goal, and it’s Tottenham again. Jenas evaded the challenge of Butt, but his 25-yard effort sails harmlessly wide.

5.18
Now that would have been special! Robbie Keane spots Given off his line and attempts a lob from all of 45-yards. Given scrambles back in the nick of time. It’s all Tottenham at the moment.

9.48
First booking of the game goes to James Milner for a reckless challenge on Kaboul.

11.15
Closest we’ve come to a goal so far, but this time it’s for Newcastle. Early ball into the box catches the Tottenham defence out, and Martins rises unmarked, but puts his header just wide of Cerny’s right post.

13.42
Mistake from Kaboul gifts the lively Martins a clear route to goal, but Dawson appears from nowhere to make a goal saving challenge. Newcastle coming into the game now in a big way.

25.00
Huddlestone booked for a nasty challenge on Newcastle’s Nicky Butt. He’s a lucky boy, as that card could very easily have been a different colour.

26.44
Off the crossbar! Martins takes the free kick in a Roberto Carlos-esque fashion, but his thunderous drive slams off the Tottenham bar.

29.00
Half chance for Newcastle, but Viduka’s shot is too close to Cerny, who makes a comfortable save

38.13
Great save from Cerny! Viduka’s left footed drive is heading for the top corner, but the big Czech keeper manages to push it away for a Newcastle corner. Robinson who? the Tottenham fan’s ask.

46.21
Robbie Keane takes on Taylor, and the Newcastle defender brings the Irishman down on the edge of the box. Taylor is booked, and Spurs get a free kick in a good area

HT
Bale’s free kick didn’t get passed the wall, and with that, the ref calls time on the first half. Tottenham started well, but Newcastle finished the half the strongest.

53.00
First blood to Tottenham! Malbranque cuts in the right hand side rolls a nice ball into the feet of Berbatov. The Tottenham hit man then used his first touch to skip around Taylor, and his second to smash to ball into the roof on the net. Fantastic finish from the Bulgarian.

Newcastle 0-1 Tottenham

58.44
Real chance for Newcastle, but an unmarked Viduka heads straight at Cerny.

61.25
Martins races though onto a Milner through ball, but Cerny dives bravely at the feet of the Newcastle man to collect the ball.

63.28
Up the other end, and it’s a chance for Spurs to double their lead. Great play between Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov, but from a similar position to the one that Berbatov scored from, he blazes over.

63.51
Newcastle substitution. Luis Enrique comes on for James Milner, with N’Zogbia switching from LB to LW.

72.31
Rozehnal picks up a booking for a late tackle on Gareth Bale.

72.49
Good save! Bale takes the resulting free kick, which is not far off 30-yards from goal, but Given is forced to tip the over for a Spurs corner.

74.28
Another Newcastle player is booked for a late challenge on Bale, but this time it’s Geremi.

74.51
Again, Spurs almost punish Newcastle from the resulting free kick. This time Bale spots Malbranque in space, who hits a half volley at the Newcastle goal. Given sees it late, but manages to push the ball away from danger.

79.36
Spurs make a double substitution. Zokora and Lennon are coming on for Huddlestone and Malbranque.

88.00
Neither team are able to find that killer pass to open up the opposition defence, although both are trying. Newcastle are frantically trying for an equaliser, and Spurs are looking to put this game to bed.

92.23
Get in! Great goal from Jermaine Jenas against his former club. Chimbonda plays the ball inside to substitute Aaron Lennon, who finds the unmarked Jenas just outside the Newcastle area, and he curls a fantastic effort into the top corner of Given’s goal. Jenas obviously enjoyed that one, and Tottenham are leaving here with all 3 points.

Newcastle 0-2 Tottenham

FT
It’s all over. Good game played out, with both sides looking to attack. It’s finished though, Newcastle 0-2 Tottenham.

Cheers guys :) And DJ_Steve, PES never lies, and so Bale sadly won't be scoring :-( Though I suggest you sell everything you have in the World over the next few hours, and whack it all on Jenas last scorer

Im pretty worried about tonight tbh. Never enjoy trips to St james, things just seem to go wrong for us and the memory of last seasons non-performance during a similar run of form is still fresh.

I hate that fcuking ground and it's neanderthal fans. Bad memories of a trip there 69/70, won 2-0 I think, or maybe 2-1, I remember Chiv scored. Anywho, at the end of the game, we were making our way back to our van and got waylaid by a bunch of stripped numpties. Far to many to have a ruck with and I'm talking about skinhead days here, so we legged it and they chased us into the river, the bastards.
All the way home sitting in skiddies, with trousers, shirts etc, hanging out of the van window's trying to dry them off.
Ah memories.

Bale and Kaboul are the best bets for first scorer (Bale is usually 22/1 and Kaboul 33/1), but you'll have to make do with Berbatov today, at a surprisingly good 7/1
