Erik Edman recently changed his agent and found out that he got too much money when he joined Spurs from Herenveen and paid £46.000 back to Herenveen this week.

It just somehow made me happy reading this and thought i'd share it.

Kinda makes you believe in footballers again....not all of them but some.

I always liked Edman and some of the other players in that team (including Mendes and Kanoute).

Why we got rid of them I'll never understand but obviously they didn't fit into Jol's plans.

I tried to look into this and it gets very murky. On the whole the transfer from Heerenveen to Spurs merely illustrates how much money the agents (and players) leech from the game. The transfer was for €2.7 million. Erik and his agent 'won' €180,000+costs at a tribunal even though he admitted he had agreed to waive his 20% entitlement (essentially €540,000) from the transfer, in order to secure the transfer. They were then upset that Heerenveen had used two other agents in the deal who took €700,000 and so went to a tribunal to get their 'share'. The tribunal claim was instigated by his agent who then took what appears to be the largest 'cut' from their "partial victory". Heerenveen thus ended up paying three agents, the player and the costs of a tribunal. It's a nice gesture from Erik to return his £46,000 share of the £124,000 awarded but I am left a little numb looking at the figures and how much the agents and players can get from a transfer. Is it no wonder there is very little loyalty amongst the players these days.

His actual quote to the swedish media:

"Jag har blivit vilseledd. På den tiden hade jag fortfarande inte koll på allt spel som pågår inom fotbollen. Jag har begått ett stort fel och det vill jag rätta till så gott det går"

I've been misguided. At that time I still didn't have a clue about all the games/tricks taking place in football. I've made a big error and I want to correct it as far as possible.

Top person, decent enough player. Hopes he makes it back to first team action.

Have a lot of respect for the guy. I remember an amusing interview where he said he was envious of our caveman ancestors who would "eat a snake or something" and that he would love that kind of life (;iving close to the elements)

Remember reading an interview in a program with him and he seemed like such a nice guy... said he didn't like expensive clubs and fast cars and whatever, just liked having bbq's with his mates. Weirdo.

Yep, remember him saying that when he retires he wants to go back to Sweden and just live a simple life having bbq's with his mates and being close to nature, or something along those lines. Sounds quite enjoyable to me.

Personally I think there should be a wage cap on players under 25. So much money so young goes straight to a players head. Too many young players around with rude boy attitudes splashing the cash. Sometimes it's good to discriminate!;-)
