If Conte is all in for him, why not? I imagine we would do a deal that suits all parties. We aren't stupid, every transfer incurs a risk, especially this one given his injury record.

Hey mate, very good Q/point. I think you could say he has the ability and potential to deliver on big occasions and it’s true that without him they probably wouldn’t have won the Conference League.

I can’t however lie and say that he is a reliable goal scorer in big games as he’s not scored a huge amount of goals in his career but I do remember off the top of my head he has scored big goals in the league in previous seasons before his injury against Milan and Napoli and I think a few in the CL against Porto or another Portuguese team also a few seasons back.

He’s a very talented player who can create something out of nothing or a moment of magic, part of the concern with him is that he’s not delivered big performances and goals as regularly enough as he was doing before his ACL but the Confence League goals were certainly a step in the right direction. That being said I don’t think he’ll ever be a player who scores you a ton of goals.

He can be a bit fiesty and picks up quite a few yellows especially last season and one red I think I remember.

I think if Conte does want him it’ll be more because he would offer us some creativity and a type of player we don’t currently have as well as being a bit of a punt on him returning to his pre ACL form in which case he’d be absolutely fantastic for us, I wouldn’t say conte would be looking at him solely for his mentality but yea ability wise he can on his day produce a big performance for sure.

Hope that helps / answers your question somewhat. @Ghost Hardware might want to add more
Yeah, he doesn't strike me as the kinda player that's going to bang in tons of goals like Sonny or Kane, but it does seem like he doesn't let the big occasion overawe him. in fact he seems to have the ability to upset the opposition team by some weird combination of shithousery and being pretty dangerous on the ball.

Watching his performance against RM, albeit before he got injured, its interesting to note that he had only just turned 20 at this time, and it looked like he rattled Casemiro, beat him a couple of times, and also succeeded in pissing Marcelo off with a bit of shithousery. So much so that Casemiro tried to fake an elbow in the face to get him in trouble.

Not exactly a fan of his antagonistic style, but its probably going to be a bitch to have to play against him, Romero and Richarlison ?. I think it fits into the team dynamic that Conte is trying to build - we're going to be a real fking pain to play against.

Trix was only saying yesterday there would be plenty of these loan options for clubs willing to take a chance on someone. Zaniolo fits that description given his injury issues. He’s still young and has loads of room for improvement and if Conte wants him I cannot see any big downside on a one yr deal with an option.

People pitching this as us picking him over Maddison when the itk we have says he may not even be available this summer.
The problem is Roma want a loan with obligation, not option. The way I see it is he is a much higher risk than Maddison would be as he is not proven in the premier league. If he was available at a decent price then it mitigates that risk to some degree. Roma want 60M Euros for him though, which is a similar price to what we could probably get Maddison for at much lower risk. On top of this there is his injury history, two ACL's, what are the chances of a third????

For those reasons I'd prefer Maddison.

Yet we bought ndombele,
A good number of posters will be eating their words if he does indeed sign. Great player and seemingly one Conte wants.
can’t wait to come back to this post when you realise he’s really not good.

Based on the YT videos, he has a touch of Dembele about him in his ability to take on players and retain the ball. Perhaps instead of us looking at his goal output and thinking he's earmarked as our main AM / RMF Rotation, we look at him as an attacking progressor of the ball.

It looks like he's pretty decent at coming deep to collect and breaking lines. Maybe he'd play the Barella role in a three-man midfield or as a progressor on the right in lieu of a top-tier RWB. Either way, if it ultimately means he replaces Ndombele, that is an absolute net win.

If we get him on a loan with an option then it would be a great signing - giving us a year to see if he can settle in the prem, or we can move onto other targets next year (Madison with 1 year left on his contract?)

Also what a squad we are building, sure he won't start ahead of kane, son or Kulu, but what an option he is to bring off the bench or rotate to give others a rest.

Tall, strong, good feet, composed, good eye for a pass and can get up and down the pitch.

As the 6th attacker to give back up to son and Kulu then this is a no brainer.

I've seen enough of him to know he isn't a brain dead footballer like most like to point out. He certainly has an eye for a pass and a fair few of his assists were well thought out through balls.

His decision making can be trained and coached. He's got the physical attributes for the Prem and is technically solid.

Hes also fairly versatile. I can see Conte bringing out the best in him.

As for his injuries, a loan deal with option to buy with N'Dombele possibly going the other was would be a great deal.

Cherry on the cake is getting Conte what he wants. Alot of people turned up their noses and Bentancur and Kulu and looked what happened.

This one is really weird...I feel strongly you cannot get a handle on him by watching highlights. But to those saying he is slow, I watched Roma's highlights from their three preseason matches so far, and he is not slow, at least not straight line.
He seems to have a good strike on him and may well work on set pieces. He just seems difficult overall to play against. I think he has the stature and the playing style to fit in the PL, though.

I'd rather Maddison too, but a loan with an option to buy is a lot less risk financially especially if Zaniolo and Maddison both are not your top target within the next 12 months.

Things have changed quite a bit at the club since we signed Tanguy and I honestly can't see us making such a mistake again.
Conte himself has pretty much called out his signing as an example of our poor transfer policy, although not in so many words.

As for waiting for posts to come back to, I'm sure we've all made mistakes in our time here, I know I have.
But, saying as much, if we do sign him and he does come good are we all allowed to quote your posts? ??

Sorry now if it’s been posted earlier in the thread but wasn’t there an agent from Italy due to come over earlier in the window that was postponed last minute? Wonder if it was to do with this guy and so suggests we have been looking at it for a while?

It was a player who was due at Hotspur Way who supposedly didn't come because their agent wasn't able to make the trip. Looking back it may have been Bissouma

For whatever reason, very few Italian players decide to come to the Premier League and of those very few suceed. The only Italian players to play for a Premier League team last season was Jorginho, Ogbonna and Gollini.

On top of this I think this might have had more weight if it had happened in the January transfer window, now he has to compete with 2 WC players, best PL signing in January (arguably) and Spurs 2nd most expensive player of all time. Having been a wonderkid with lengthy spells on the sidelines I would speculate that he would want a more clearer path to the starting eleven.

I'll revise some of my statements from earlier in that I believed this would be a massive, £50-60m transfer (as those were the numbers heavily rumoured in the Juve deal from last week). If we spunk £50m on him in cash, I am sorry but that is a ridiculous price. Dybala had 20 more G+A in Serie A last season and he was available for free.

If it is in fact a loan with a favorable option, and if Zani is OK with being a 5th or 6th choice attacker, it is nowhere near as bad as I was making it out to be. There is at least a fair amount of moldable talent here.
