Has anyone mentioned:
  • His injury record - he’s done both ACLs you know
  • His recent appearance record - 42 games last season
  • His output - not enough
  • Where he plays - CAM but also CM and RW for Roma
  • Swap with option - sounds most sensible
  • A possible swap with Ndombele - whom Jose does/doesn’t like
  • That they’d be disappointed with him (is it because he’s not Maddison?)
  • That we should trust AC and Fab - 6 great, sensible signings already and it’s still July.

Not long ago when we were first linked, maybe a season or two back. Everyone was literally creaming at the thought of signing him. Sure he’s had injuries but he has so much talent and adds to our powerful ball carrying Amo. By the same logic some apply,I assume we wouldn’t buy/offer a new contract to Kane, who also has his share of injury problems that usually pop up during a season? ?‍♀️

Not qualified to offer an opinion on the player as I haven’t seen enough of him… but two big pluses for me would be an opportunity to get rid of TN… don’t think we can lose with a straight loan-swap for instance.

More importantly if it makes Conte even happier, do it IMO.

Any opportunity to make Antonio feel warm and fuzzy enough to sign a contract extension is good with me!

We will see. I just don't see it happening anyway tbh, I think if we were looking for an out and out AM to create a regular tactical switch, it would have been at the forefront of our Summer business not an afterthought because we might be able to get him cheap due to his clubs financial situation.
Agreed it's more niche in Conte's system who's preference is definitely a workmanlike central midfield.

I also agree on not looking to spend vast amounts of money on this position either at the expense of say a Bastoni/Gvardiol-esque LCB but one wonders if (to an extent) we've kept our powder dry in case of an advantageous deal presents itself late on this summer.

Watch this space I guess...

If Conte wants him, Conte will get him.

This thread will just be in a repetition stage of arguing against his medical history to preferences for Maddison until someone signs.

I think the switch may be more 343 to 3412 than 352, with one of the forwards dropping slightly deeper/more central, infront of the the CM2, and then the remaining forwards working as a duo, width will remain from the wing backs. As the squad stands, Kulusevski could drift centrally and leave Kane & Son up top, or if Richarlison plays, Kane could drop deep (as he often can do) and Richarlison partners Son. That way Kane can also attack crosses with late runs into the box. This is how I see any additional AM fitting in, it’ll be someone that can play as a WF but on demand can tuck into a No10 role. It can be fluid mid game without the needs for subs, in the same way we used to turn a 4231 into a 3421 with Dier dropping in to CCB and Eriksen dropping into CM to partner Dembele.

Maybe once we're done discussing the information above which is actually relevant to Zaniolo we can finally start the puns. :shifty:

It would be another signing in the "I trust Conte" mold, because he is a player who wont arrive at his best moment, and I don't think he is exactly the type of player we need, although we can make use of his qualities. I think he shows his best when attacking the box, but I think he leaves a bit to be desired in terms of passing, and I feel that is something that is lacking in our midfield.
Yep. I think we lack a player in there who will win us games when it isn't going our way. Teams sitting back or say a City/Liverpool have us absolutely under the pump and the front three can't get near it/get shots off, then you need someone in the middle to take control of the game and make things happen and we don't have that at the moment. Bissouma is great defensively, and the other three will all work their arses off but none of them are likely to find that unlikely pass, or dribble past someone and score. If we fail to sign someone of that ilk, I reckon it'll be a noticeable hole throughout the season. Zaniolo doesn't have those qualities imo.

On the other hand, some poor sod signed Dele Alli in January based on the 'well, players don't just turn bad' theory

Was it Jose who wanted to sign him for us earlier and who now doesn’t want him at Roma?

An honest question. I don’t have much of an opinion and trust Conte and Paratici on this one.

Another question is if they can convince him as he seems to be wanting Juve?

most important question, how the fuck do you miss a game from a bruise? :ROFLMAO:
You can easily bruise a foot badly and not be able to run on it without pain, or bruise your knee so it balloons up.

The only thing stopping me saying I’d absolutely take him over Maddison is our home grown situation. If we’re solving that in another way, I’d go Zaniolo all day. He’s exactly what we need.
Why though? As far as I’m concerned Maddison is not only a much better player but a far better fit. He’s a better ball striker than Zaniolo, has a much more decisive final ball and offers us quality than we lack at set pieces. Simply put he’s much more of a passer than Zaniolo who is more physical and a straight line runner. Maddison raises the technical level of the side which is necessary if we want to go to the next level as a side. Zaniolo does not do this and will end up being a cover for Kulusevski without the Swede’s 1v1 ability.
