Gareth Bale looks unlikely to return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer as he is closing in on a big money move to China.

I say this of all talented players who leave Europe in their prime (perhaps with prejudice): What a waste.

Seems he's being forced out of Real Madrid and he's gonna be an idol in the Chinese League.

Madness.

Sad end to his career. He's (not even?) 30 and he's earned more than he'll ever need. Why not take a cut and be remembered for glory at another leading club? Says a lot about his character. I hate Ronaldo but you can't accuse him of taking the easy choice.

If this is where he goes. Then I don't blame him following the money. He clearly doesn't have the same motivation for football he once had, and no matter what club he turns up for next, they'll be getting a player who'd prefer to be somewhere else.

I agree with others. For me personally I'd rather play a few more years at a top club in Europe for less money. Then in mid 30s go to China or MLS for the experience not the cash.

Other than the money there is no reason to go to China. This is far too early in his career for this, I and it seems many will have lost a lot of respect for him if this is true.

I can't believe it - just when it seemed that we were on the verge of securing his triumphant return - that's a blow and no mistake guvnor.

Absolute bottle job if he goes there. Had a chance to make a statement and have a bit of self self respect but chose a payoff instead and let RM off the hook. Hasn't done it yet so there's still some hope. I never thought (or particularly wanted) him to come back to us but he's running away if he takes this route.

So he’s basically retiring!

Running away from what though, he's already achieved everything he needs to achieve, you don't get much better than winning 4 x CL's...doesn't matter who you are of you feel you've achieved everything at the top level of there's a million pound a week contract on the table you're gonna seriously consider it, I understand him signing it.
